Been doing a little reading/searching on here for anyone who has put a set of Ski Doo Pilot 6.9 skis on a Nytro, and not finding much. After putting 300 mi on my new XTX in pow this year I find the stock skis to be seriously lacking in almost all aspects. I hear a lot of different opinions about the Simmons, C&As, Slydogs, etc. etc. I happen to have a set of 6.9 pilots on my laid-up 800 Renegade and I was thinking of trying them on my Nytro, as they are pretty decent on and off trail skis. They are equipped with a set of 6" shaper bars. If I do this I know I need a new set of rubbers that I can cut up to make fit on the Yami, but will I have to make any irreversible changes to the skis themselves? If anyone has opinions on this setup and any comments let me know, thanks!

I just installed a set of Pilot Mountains on my '09 XTX. The regular trail version Pilot has the same mount set-up so either ski will mount. I experimented with the stock Yamaha rubber and the fitment to the Pilot ski was not even close. The stock rubber from the Pilot will not work either..not even close. I did some searching on this site and found a small blurb mentioning that a TY member used a Slydog ski rubber from their Nytro/Phazer mount kit. I ordered that kit and found that it works very well and is very solidly mounted with NO ski slop...none...just what you want!

On the Pilot ski the bolt bushing is normally pressed into the ski-bolt hole from the inside of the ski next to where the ski rubber mounts in the bottom of the ski. However, if you are mounting this Pilot ski on a Nytro you will have to remove both ski-bolt bushings and press them in from the outside of the ski. That means the "head" of the bushings will be on the outside of the ski.

The Slydog ski mount kit comes with, of course, the two rubbers, two spindle bolts, two lock nuts, and four ski bushings. I did not use the kit's ski bushings because the Pilot plastic thickness is narrower than the Slydog ski plastic and simply would not work correctly. Just use the rubbers from the kit and uses your stock Yamaha bolt and lock nut.

Good luck!!

I run the pilot 6.9's with both carbides installed on an 08 Nytro ext. to 136". This is a huge improvement from the yamy ski. Less steering effort, no darting, improved floatation etc. The only negative I've noticed is some push in corners mostly in softer conditions. Push may be somewhat eliminated by changing setup but I feel a wide dual runner ski may always create some push in corners.

What ski rubber did you use? I have a set of the 6.9 pilots on the way with the ZX chassis mounts, I've heard that it's a perfect fit.

I ran the pilot 6.9's on my sled last year from day 1, never even tried the stock skis. The Yamaha rubber will work just fine with a little modification. You don't need to switch both bushings to the outside as mentioned above, I switched one & it fits perfectly. On the ski rubber, I used a hot solder gun to cut 2 small grooves on the front of the Yamaha rubber so it will fit over the raised rib on the front of the Pilot's mount. These grooves were inline with the holes in the bottom of the Yamaha rubber. 1300 miles on mine & love-en em!

Anyone else running 6.9's that can offer a real world opinion.

I have the 5.7's and they are fantastic as a trail ski. However, much of my riding is done off-trail and I really want some flotation. My first instinct was to go to C&A XTX's, but given that I have the pilot carbides, mounting kit, handles etc, I can pick up a set of 6.9's for a fraction of the cost. All I need now is a real life opinion of these skis and their performance on the Nytro

Ok, this might be a stupid question, but is there 2 different style 6.9 Pilot skis? One with a center carbide and one with 2 different carbides? Or is it the same ski and you just have the option for a 2nd carbide runner?
And which way is better on the XTX? One or two carbide runners per ski?
I'm thinking this is the way to go and see many 6.9 pilots for sale, but want to make sure I get the right version.
Newbie here, so any experts out there on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Ryan

The skis have the option for the second runner...I personally wouldn't own the skis without the second runner...It's a must.

As for the XTX, I'd definitely go with the 6.9's unless you are strictly an on-trail rider.

The float well and work well on groomed trail but a little too much push for me. I sold them when I traded my apex. I am now running curves XS skis
