Pilot boot trimming

Just got my first ride on pilot 5.7 skis and really like them. I noticed when thesled was in the air on install,once I put the bolt through the rear of the ski was forced down and the front of the ski up. Didnt think it was a big deal until I hit some powder. No turning at all!!!!!!! I know the boot needs to be trimmed,no its not on backwards the taller side is forward. What have some of you done how much have you taken offf?????
 
AAAHHHHHH HAAAAAAAA I thought it was just me or maybe it was because I ride a RTX. Any snow at all on non hard pack they are horrible. I went all of the way to 125 PSI on the air shocks and still nothing tried pulling the limiter strap up and still nothing. SO maybe RTX and the mono fixes would be great in here.
 
Yea its not you, the rubber stopper has to be trimmed, I would say shimming the back would work but its already a really tight fit. If nobody has any ideas by the end of the night I will figure something out 2morow and post some pics of what I did.
 
I put 3/16th on the back of rubber, little hard getting the bolt in, but works fine!
 
That should definatley work, I would like to shave an 1/8 of an inch or even 1/4 off bottom of stopper and then shim it. I just dont have the time to make a mistake, last trip coming up this weekend. Wish I had a nice band saw!!!!!!!
 
I tried the shimming today will see how it works 2morow. I placed the shim in front of the stopper. These stoppers are different from the stock. When I shimmed the back it made the ski tilt up even more. So I took it out and shimmed the front 1/4" shim and that leveled it out a little.
 
Never heard of shimming the front of the rubber bumper. I have the same pilot skis on my apex and I shimmed the back, which does put more pressure on the back of the ski. In the snow conditions we ride in, this set up greatly improves the handling. I've shimmed the skis on other sleds too, all with great results. You want the pressure concentrated under the spindles, not near the ski tips. It was tough getting the bolt back threw but two people and a two by four under the inside of the ski will help.
 
Yea i'm familiar with shimming the skis, but when I had the front end in the air I shimmed the back of the stopper and wqhen I compared it to the other ski it had brought the front of the ski up higher than the one not shimmed. So I took it out and placed it at the front of the stop and then it brought the front of the ski down lower than the un- shimmed ski. When out for a ride today and almost burned up my slides so cold and hard packede no snow kick up. WTF I'm pissed and today was my last day to really test out were and how much to shim, got 1 last big trip planned fro this coming weekend. I'm just gonna take the shims out and run them the way they are. I will figure somwething out over the summer. I will just stay clear of any powder for now.

2nd thought, I guess if I jam a 3/8 or maybe a little smaller in the back of the stopper like the bergstroms,when the weight and pressure is on the skis it will tilt the ski forward. Maybe just because I had it in the air with no weight on was why I got the effect I did.
 
From what I've always thought, the front of your ski should be higher than the back when the front of your sled is lifted into the air. Without shimming the backs, my skis sat level and my sled darted all over the trail. Now that I installed the shims under the back of the rubber bumpers the ski tips are higher when the sled is off the ground. I have to physically push the fronts down to level out the skis. This is what you want to eliminate any darting. At least take the shims and tools with you. I would bet you will be installing them after one ride. Have a safe trip and Good luck.

Yea I understand all that and have had stock skis with bergstroms shimmed in the back for 2 years now. But I was able to steer in powder no matter how much. With these there is no steering in the powder at all. With no weight on it the ski-doo stopper forces the ski up!!! I do not ride off trail but occasionally I need to go into powder to cool slides. I cant believe no one knows what I'm talking about or has had the similar problems!!!! Maybe they made a new boot or something,I just got them this week. Very Frustrated!!!!!!!!
 
I see. Well I have heard others complain about the 5.7 pilots for use in deep snow. I ride in PA so we rarely get deep powder snow. There is another model of pilot ski that is better suited for deeper snow but I'm not sure which one it is.
 
Yea its the 6.9, I'm not a deep powder rider either,but I occasionally need to go through it and I always go into it to get some snow to the slides and skids.
