Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and so far have found some very good info.
So I have a question if any one has made a trip from mercer wi to copper harbor mi, and about how long it would take?
Some friends and I are thinking of doing this the end of january. Just wondering if its a good day ride or if we should get a hotel room in copper harbor?

Just north of Green Bay to Mercer, but not up further. I'm sure you'll get your answer, i've heard this disscussed before.
We do a lot more trips like the one you're talking about now days. We plan on 25 mph. That, for us, that is very accurate. We stop once for gas, maybe twice, that's all, (that is all included in the 25mph.) Doesn't sound like much, but we ride a pretty good pace. Mike.

I would say stay in Copper Harbor and then come back the next day.
We went from Bruce Crossing to Copper Harbor and it was a about and 8-9 hour trip. If you have a group of guys that ride fast you can make it in less but there are also a lot of cool things to stop and see on the ride up.
If you want to do a ride up and back I would say stay in South Range or Houghton. The Mariner I think is a really nice hotel/restaraunt in Copper Harbor. The view on top is amazing and worth the trip. Another nice spot was the old Iron dam North of South Range and the BFH.

Depending on how fast you ride I would say mercer to copper is a two day round trip. I rode from Bruce Crossing to copper and back at a average speed of 60-70 and it took us from 9am to 10pm with normal stops for meals and such. We made the mistake of taking the trail from Copper to Gay.........what a huge mistake, not sure on how many miles but they rarley groom that section as there is no place to turn the groomer around, something like 30 miles of 2-3ft moguls!!!!! After Gay it was smooth sailing. The round trip was about 300 miles, so if you can sustain that kinda milage it can be done in one day but your going to have to ride hard.

Sounds like heaven. Man I can't wait for this season to start.
I agree though, really nice trails and places to stop in the K.P. so I wouldn't plan a one day'r. Give your self some time to explore a bit.

We have made that run several times.
From the Great Northern to Houghton is 140 miles via Presque Isle. From Houghton to Copper is about another 60 miles. I would find a place to stay for the night! You probably could do it but it is going to be a LONG day! If trails are good you can make it up there in no time but if they are bad, it really makes for a long day!
