I checked the plugs on my 05 RX-1 and the tip of the electrode was white. The porcelin insulator looked a nice light tan color.
Why would the tip of the electrode be so white?
I'm wondering if we're pushing the limits a little with the low octane fuel we're running (87 octane - Yamaha calls for 88 octane minimum).
Do you guys running CR10EK have the white electrode tip?
One other related question. Do these motors have knock sensors?

No knock sensors, you're running lean. Put in a bigger main jet. At Ottawa elevations, you should be running 137.5 or even 140.0. Stock is 135.
I ride in Michigan which is about 750 to 1500 feet ablove sea level. All we did was lower the clip on the neenle and set the air screws at 2 turns. The plugs will not read like a 2 stroke. It seems like it's running lean by the reading but it's not!!!

The tan color of the insulator makes me think it's not really too lean (although from what I've read 137.5 or 140 mains would probably give a slight boost in power).
I've always read the white tip of the electrode to mean advanced ignition timing, low octane fuel or too hot a plug. It's only the top surface of the electrode that is white. If it was white down the sides of the electrode I'd be more concerned. There are no signs of significant detonation.
It just seems to me like it's closer to the hot plug side of things (although I'm far from an expert on modern high revving 4-stroke motor tuning) and one heat range colder a plug might give it a slight boost in power without fouling at all (I know Supertuner uses CR10EK's with his ECP kits).
The CR10EK's are also a dual ground electrode design which might be giving a boost for this particular combustion chamber.

I have read that when the electrode is burned it is because the timing is advanced too far.Supposedly the electrode burning should be within a few thousands of the tip.
When i put in the ecp kit a few days ago i noticed my plugs were also burned down about .030 to .040 thousands down the electrode.
