So how many years has this been going on?

'89 -> 05 is 16 years!!!

I was riding Polaris and Skidoo until this year and none of my buddies rode Yamaha (until this year) so I guess I've been a little out of touch. I didn't expect my 05 to have the suspension fall apart like this - especially in the first year.

Right now a little over 50% responding to this poll have not had a w-arm fail yet. I wonder if most of them are low mileage sleds?

2 differant sleds (03 shorty and a 05 shorty) total about 5000 miles nothing broke or looking like it wants to....I think these things are engineered for us "light weights" ie less than 170 pounds ;)! ;)!

Possibly, but at 210-215 lbs I didn't have my first minor crack in the first pivot arm until over 3000 miles (5000 kms). It was all downhill from there...

To me a half decent season is 5000 miles (8000 kms) per year. If my RX-1 wasn't in the shop waiting for parts I might have put 10,000 miles (16,000 kms) on it this year (very enjoyable sled - when it wasn't broken).

I specifically bought the RX-1 to put some serious miles on it (rumoured to be reliable).

The lowest mileage 2005 RX-1 pivot arm failure I know of was 1900 kms (1200 miles). The highest mileage I heard of one lasting was 8000 kms (5000 miles). Every 2005 RX-1 I know of with over 8000 kms (5000 miles) on it has had the pivot arm crack.

Same situation around here!

Its just a matter of time. At the Sno-Deo I had a chance to ride an '05, and although its much better than the '03/'04s, I like the ride of my Cat skid better. The Apex rides as well as my Cat skid though.

That's positive. Wich model did you test, how long and in what conditions?

Also, didn't they reinforce the suspension in 06?
