Does this torn rib mean this belt on its way out? There are a couple other spots that fabric is worn on the peak of the inside ribs, but no other missing rubber. I measured the width at the valley of the outer ribs several places around and got 33.4mm-33.7mm so within the 32.5mm spec.

That's a strange place for belt damage. Did a mouse get chewing at it? All my belt failures are from the top corrugated layer delaminating, or top layer cord popping. I would use that belt as long as you have a spare with you, or just keep as a spare.

I feel the 'keep as a spare' concept sounds good but has to be thought through. If you only take short trips under predictably tame conditions then maybe. But what if you are heading on a long multi day trip or 40 miles into the bush a 40 below alone. Different answer I think.

Run it and find out what it is good for, I wouldn't take an old dried out belt and cook it under the hood for a couple years and then expect it to get me home in a pinch. JMO.

i put a new belt on for a spare but i do have an older one in the saddle bag for when i do not have time to break one in gently. i tend to burn them or take off the outer layer. put ones on with damage like that from hitting something in saddle bag/ belly pan with them lasting the same time as all the others for me.
