Power commander????????

I talked with Jonathan about my setup or lack of. LOL
I have a stock clutched, apex, shimmed secondary 3 3, clutch is cut for full shift out, Ram air box, and rumble pack exhaust. Ya it's cheap exhaust but a good bang for the buck. 96 1.45 pic's. 24 top gear. I run out 10,700 rpm's maybe do another 100 if I could find the place to run that long of a distance.
I do beleive the ram air was running my sled lean, so I'm going to do some runs with the ram air and stock cover. He suggested going to a stock belt, 23 top gear and stock cover. I do have the stealth mod already. Hope this does the trick.
What I would like to know is what gain would I see with the power commander and ignition module? shouldn't my sled be dyno'ed?

Kayyyyy, let me get this straight.... You have a RAM AIR and your stealth mod done at the same time? Please don't say yes to that. Also, yes, put the 23 gear in. That's a must.... So what are the gains from the Rumble packs. Do you have any specs from it. Like I said, If you have a exhaust system and modded air box.lid, then yes, you need a fuel controller. It is starviing for fuel and that is why you are not running very well. With the air mod, you don't need a Fuel Controller, but with both it's a must. What belt are you running? Also, on the long run, you should be 10,900-11,000.

kinda funny..no one knows for sure....too rich...too lean?
without a wideband who knows on each machine..

I just ran mine with a lid mod and a lower airbox mod AND an excell....and I still think It's fat...not sure though...was warm and sloppy...ran well for a machine not broken in yet.

power commander

Thanks for your help guys, especially Jonathan! We chatted on the phone and he gave me some good tips and a solid base line to start.
Thats what makes this site rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All of you are willing to help each other and I think thats great, #*$&@! I just got in the christmas spirit. LOL

Ulmer says too much air will make it slower, than stock. The testing has been done by FIX and Ulmer, I doubdt you need a Wide Ban. But if you have it, by all means put it on.....

Hey SledFreak

Are you sure about the high octane fuel, I filled up my tank from absolutle empty with high test, and didnt feel, hear or notice a difference. Didnt get any instructions from allen or the powercommander/ignition module instrctions to do so either.

Also, any reason why my sled might red line on pinning it from a stop? I susally dont pin it from a stop anyways, but sometimes in powder.. Im thinking its the wrap in the secondary.

Fuel adjustment without the PCClll ....

Isn't there a way to adjust the fuel mixture settings without the pclll ? Seems like I read some where you could install a jumper and then adjust certain settings....wouldn't this help if we don't have the PClll ? I bet HAMMER can chime in with some answers ........? How about running premium with these mods instead of 87 since premium burns slower it simulates a richer condition in a round about way. Supposedly this is why in stock form they actually run better WITHOUT premium gas ?

If you haven't adjusted the timing, then don't run Premium, you will actually lose HP.

Yes, I am sure, it is added safety... If you go to his forum, and read the post on the air box mod for the Apex. You will see where he talks alot about Premium fuel, with the ignition controller and I also talked to him over the phone about it. Call him ask about it, he will explain it to you why he reccomends it and ask him how the timing works. It's quite interesting..... If you can't get Premium in between fillups, then don't sweat it, but he said he did not reccomend holding it wide open during that time period. He said just trail ride it. Remember the timing does not get turned up unless the Throttle position sensor says you are at WFO. That's when the ignition gets bumped up 6 degrees. After 10,000rpm he backs it back down to almost stock and around 10,800-11,000 he picks it back up 2 degrees. On a long hard run, you want to be pulling 11,000RPM.

Now for the clutching it will do that in powder, not much you can do about that, unless you ride alot in powder, than maybe you may want to take a little less squeeze away from the belt... ie... remove some heel weight from the the heel of the weight. But, if it was me I would not touch it. Once the ground tightens up some more it will run where it should. It should pull to 10,400-10,500 and slowly climb to 11,000 on top end.

Awesome!

I definately learned a few things right there!

Im not going to touch the clutching, it sounds alright where it is. Going to run an XS805 belt soon, I dont like the hardness of the yamaha belts, especially when the cords keep popping out,

Also, the bender is excellent, and it gets noticed, and sounds very good. I drive very slowly in town, without brapping the throttle or even giving it, but once you crack on it, holly geeeez, shes loud! After a whole day of riding, you get this annoying droning in your ears, but this is only sometimes.

That bend in the pipe caused it not to go on with the exahust donuts, And I tried for days to put it on along with an entire new set of donuts, but wouldnt go on. So Its being ran without them and a ton of exhaust cement. So far, no backfiring, and no real noise that I can hear coming from under the tunnel, but maybe there is some leakage, but I cant detect it.

I wish I could run the XS805, I have heard some good things about it..... But, I have my Primary machined and was advised not to run it with a Cut Primary..... It may drop your RPM's by 300RPM or so, so you will probably have to adjust for it..... That's the thing, the clutch setup you have is for using the stock 8DN belt, so you should consult with Ulmer when you do it, to see what he says. He will probabaly tell you what you need to do.

If it was me, I would of called Bender and told them to send me a pipe that fits..... That's crap.... Using the cement is not the way to go. I think, I'm going to go with the excell, it's pricey, but it's a nice package and Allen has tested with it, so he has a map, that I can just plug into my PCIII and run it.
