I have them on mine as well and I do believe you will need the kit. I am sure someone here will confirm that as well.

I have the mounting kit on mine with the boots. I'm sure that you could modify the existing ones if you tried. You may have to throw some shims in so that they align properly.
With the mounting kit it's a very easy process, maybe a good part of an hour.

If I recall, didn't that modification involve chopping up the Yamaha ski saddle? That being the case, wouldn't work on an RS since their saddles are plastic molded in.
only 05 has the saddless skis?

If memory serves, someone managed to modify the '03 RX-1 saddles to accommodate the precision ski. I used the skis with the mounting kit as I wanted to be able to remove the precision skis if I were to sell or trade the RX. I think you had to reverse one bushing on each ski saddle, use thin washers for spacers and use the longer ski bolts that came with the kit. Also, the rubber bumpers that come with the kit seem impossible to install because the spindle to saddle angle is different from the RX-1 to the Ski-doo. This actually works to advantage because when you manage to get them on (with help) you will have basically a ski with shims under the rear of the bumper. This will help with darting and steering resistance and helps keep the skis up in powder. When you jack the front of the machine up off the floor you will see what I mean as the ski tips will be up instead of level.
