The belt on my 08 apex ltx does not come up to the top of my primary clutch. It seems to be about 1/2" below. Is this normal ?[/b]

unless you use a speed sheave or cut clutch it can't go to the top.

It's normal. Get the helix machined or buy a clutch kit. Most of the helix's in the the Proline kit or Ulmer's have the helix cut, which will help in the OD. Apparently the drag and fly weights will help pull it through the top, but I believe you will still need to get the helix cut..
I second Yamadog1 on this.....
Take a top shape primary remove the spring, close the sheaves, then wrap a fresh 8DN around....
i did... i measured 9mm to the top.
So basically, your 1/2" is a bit high not far away. Measure it again.. draw a little line with a marker at the high side then run your sled fully shifted... make sure it is within 1/2", and considering your belt wears. If not then your good to a clutch tuning job.
..oh.. That is why i am on the agressive side when i remove that engagement mark on the primary that the 8DN does on my clutch...cause there are more room to go at top.
