I have a 03 and did some searches on the primary clutch noise from gear reduction and how to help it a little bit. The only question and concern I have is that there is a little play on the primary side to side, very minimal. No in and out play, I was just making sure this is normal? Is the primary clutch attached directly onto the crank?

I guess I should qualify the play i'm talking about is if I put my hands on the primary at 3 and 9 o'clock and move it side to side like a steering wheel. Sorry hope this helps.

No its not mounted direct to the crank....it's on a gear reduction system which is the noise you hear when its idling. All is normal.

If you don't like the clicking sound at idle, turn your idle up to about 1500-1700 and it pretty much goes away.

If your carbs, are synced, a lot of the clutch rattle goes away. Also, you can install O-Rings in the clutch to firm up things. Also, if it has not been rebuilt lately, there could be other clutch wear in there that contributes to the rattles.
