I am 240 ish and I have found that I hit the stops a lot. I see there is a heavy spring # 8fa-47489-00-00 that has a higher spring rate.
Questions:
Yammy wants a fortune anyone know an alternative?
Can I replace the rear without the center?
Can I put a spacer behind the existing adjustment collar to give me even more preload?
I read there were c-clips that could be moved be may cause damage to the shock from rubbing.
Any help is appreciated. I was told by a tech the machine was good to 220 tops stock and after years of abuse probably much less.

Definitely put in the "fat boy" spring....it will help tremendously.
I weigh about 275# before I put gear on, and at times I wish they made an "extra-fatboy" spring!

Anyone know if there is any difference between the warrior spring and the RX1 shorty?

I went on Yamaha Motor and it looks like it is the same part # 8fa-47489-00 for both now the question still remains can it be used without replacing the center spring with the heavier one #8fa-47336-00.
"fatboy" 8fa-47489-00 = 34.3-58.8 N/mm rear spring
and the 8fa-47336-00 = 30 - 55 N/mm centre spring

Yes, you can use it without updating the center.

A shock re-valve tailored to your weight and riding style should be done as well.
how would one tell the big boy spring from another? what change in diameter is there?

Fatboy spring
I have a fatboy spring off an 05 Rage and I replaced it with the stock one for my wife. I measured the stock one at 10.5mm and the fatboy at 11.5mm. Itis for sale if anyone wants it.

as per the service manual the wire diameter on the rear stock spring is:
11.8 mm (0.465 in) (RX10, RX10S, RX10R, RX10RS) for shorty (RX1)
10.5 mm (0.413 in) (RX10M, RX10MS) for the warrior/mountain
So something does not add up on that measurement for a fatboy unless you have a warrior or did the rage have the mono shock suspension in it? If so this thread was intended for the pro action suspension.

Ok so I tore my rear shock out tonight. How and the hell would you even change the spring? I do not see any way to get it off. Mine does match up with the spec from the manual. The wire is 11.8mm with a pair of calibers.

Put the shock to its lowest setting. compress the spring(i have used cargo straps not the safetest or smartest thing cause they will slip) there is a clip that holds the spring seat inplace remove clip, seat and uncompress the spring. the spring is now free as a bird
this is how i have done it in the past this was off of a pro-action on a
v-max the RX-1 should be the same never taken it apart
some have no clip and are held in place by the springs pressure

Thx. After another look last night I realized the same thing. Looks like after you compress the spring there is a silver collar that slides off. It has a groove missing to clear the shock rod. I don't know how you are supposed to use the preload collar on the machine as I have it on the floor and still can't move it. Gonna have to put it in a vise and get creative. The tool for the front shocks does not have a chance. Dumb design IMO.

I went to the BigBoy spring and it just rode stiffer but still bottomed out so hard it would drive my spin up and out the top of my head. We are talking vomit type pain with near black out dizzyness.
So I looked at the VK Professional and went hey that will fit so I used the spring from the VK. Rode even harder (think lumber wagon) but bottoming out was not quite as severe.
I never saw a skid that could ride so stiff (even with the stock spring) and yet bottom out like it had no shock at all. Only on the G outs was this a problem you know them sudden drops into a hole in the trail or bottom of a gully. The skid rode great on everything else!
I tried every setting I could but could not correct this one flaw. So I dropped in a ZX2 and wow night and day difference. The one thing I did not try was a shock revalve but wait you can not revalve the shock on the 05 pro action so I would need a different shock and get it revalved as per recomendations by pioneer. The ZX2 started looking better all the time.
Just my overweight experiance with the Pro Action.
