Hi Guys i am just wondering i have been talking with YAMAHA CANADA regarding their Proactive Skid and the probs with wheels in this skid, the prob i have is at the start of the year there was warranty givin on these wheels and now that i have gone through 20 stock wheels delappitating they are REFUSING to warranty the wheels "only the first 8" i have had to dish out extra money on a sled that has warranty on and i feel this is total BS so this is a poll to see how many of you have had this prob any help would be great regarding this matter as i am not the only one with this prob the 06 also had these wheels and delappitating was a common thing as well last year !!!!! since i have switched my wheels to the accessory wheels i have not had a prob since it seems the wheels are getting to hot with this skid and the rubber just falls off if i was riding in poor conditions i could understand the prob but 20 wheels ?? CMON YAMAHA CANADA lets fix this problem properly i wasnt asking for all my money back back some yamaha bucks would have been a gesture to help cover some of the costs of these wheels. Thanks in advance post your wheel consuption LOL and what skid Thanks in advance guys i will be glad to let Scott Harrison @ YAMAHA CANADA know this is not an isolated problem

what are the accessory wheels you talk about ? i blew 3 front wheels in the last 300 km of riding. i was talking to dt powersports(polaris & yamaha) in uxbridge as they are a polaris dealer trying to get them to match up polaris wheels to my yammi

Installing Polaris wheels on your skid will require mods to the wheel supports/axle/bushings as the Polaris wheels use a wider bearing (6205). These wheels also have a larger diameter, which reduce slider wear. ;)! Do a search here and you'll find a thousand posts on this mod.

It only took one season of riding before I went with aftermarket wheels and swapped out 6 wheels in my skid due to warpage and bearing failure.

After 2100km on my aftermarket wheels, the front inner idlers are "out of round" (due to the spokes on the wheel), but not warped, as wellas a couple of chunks of rubber are missing. I plan on installing more solid (no spokes) wheels, possibly aluminum ones to replace them to see if they'll last longer, or take the heat, so to speak.

When the sled show comes to Ottawa, I will be looking very closely at the wheels on the new FX Nytro, to see if there are any changes there.

If you're sled is still under warranty, I would try to have them agree to installing aftermarket wheels, as opposed to the Yammy factory ones.

Not sure if it is snow or lack of that is causing the problems with the wheels but I have 1300km on my RTX and the original wheels work and look like new.

Can you give more details as to how is your suspension is setup? Maybe there is a setup that limits the pressure that these wheels endure.

Where do you have these settings?
Torsion spring
Weight transfer
Rear shock setting
Front shock setting
Limiter strap
Track tension
Rider weight

Hey Tom,

I have 5000 miles on my 07 RTX and not a single bogie wheel has deteriated or bearing. sorry ..... it has been excellent.

and i have ridden her hard.... just see my crash post here ;)

cheers

Wow i am surprised only a couple have had problems,i lost my two inside front wheels,at 500 miles,so i just removed all 4 of them asked my dealer to give me the 05 rx1 all plastic ones, and i even got two more and mounted them in back on the outside, where the 06 mono skids have theres mounted,so far now another 1,000 miles later,no more problems.

i have an 05 with proactive and not one wheel is damaged after 2000 miles

I think everyone here is just getting tired of going over and over this subject, hence the lack of responses. Like I said before, many have posted their issues with these wheels. In the end, many just switch over to aftermarket wheels, as it's easier than missing out on riding time taking it in to the Dealer for inspection/replacement/denial. To continue buying the cheap Yammy wheels, with the encapsulated bearings (WTF?) is madness and just lines the pockets of Yamaha with more $$$, which they have no problems with.

To those with these problems, register them with Yamaha. The more complaints, the more likelyhood of Yamaha addressing them...and hopefully in the end, improving the quality/durability of them.

Despite all this, I love my Vector.

Just an FYI I put all brand new plastic blue Yamaha idler wheels on my Viper last year and only rode about 200 miles last winter and about 700 this year and two of the 4 wheels are trashed, the other two are marginal. I also replaced the two large outside rear axel wheels with blue accessory wheels and these seem to be fine. I run 144 studs down the middle and the studs are fine. Nothing broken. I don't ride that hard. I bought these wheels because the bearings were not replaceable in the rear axle drive wheels and they were about 80 bucks a piece. I replaced all the wheels in the skid with accessory wheels for less than that. Very disappointed.

Go back to your dealer and get the 05 rx1 all black in color and they have a none replaceable bearing, the wheel has all plastic, and they are not in the assesories book,i have already replaced all of my wheels with these spoked after market wheels, same problem rubber delaminated, now with the plastic wheels, not one bad wheel,i can now ride again with out any more trouble from them.

I wanted to ride this season with the absolute minimum of downtime/break downs (and other than 1 pair of hyfax wearing out my sled didn't have any break downs). When I picked up my 07 RTX and saw the wheels looked identical to the 06 wheels that everyone I personally know kept blowing apart I decided to play it safe.

So, right away, I pulled the suspension apart and machined everything so I could install 2004 RX-1 idler wheels (much heavier and they use larger 6205 bearings). I also added an extra pair of 2004 RX-1 idlers in the "accessory location" on the Pro-Active skid.

Anyway - almost 5000 km later - as I expected I haven't had a single problem. Some of my buddies riding their Apex's with brand new stock and Yamaha accessory wheels at the start of the season did have them both delaminate and also had the bearings completely wear out (some of the wheels are almost falling off).

None of the guys went back to Yamaha about the wheels though. They all decided to run 04 RX-1 wheels like me and none of them had any problems at all once they did. We're all studded.

To me its just not worth the hassle and down time to have any idler wheel failures during a season and its well worth the $150 to install tried and true 2004 RX-1 wheels.

Yes i agree rex i also installed the extra two rear wheels on the outside of the rails, and no more wheel failures.
