So I pulled my 07 RTX off of the shelf 8 days ago to move some equipment around. I got it to start after sitting since last season. I let it warm up till the low temp light went out and took it around the yard once. It was definitly running rough and missing on at least 1 cylinder part of the time. Never got on it hard, drove it under the shed and left it there. Went to start it two days ago with 6 gallons fresh gas and some sea foam in it, but couldn't get it to go. Sputtered a few times, but never quite got it to start. Had one tremendous backfire (real loud under the shed!) Finally wore the battery down.

Now I am a fairly accomplished mechanic, and I have surrendered to the fact that with todays poor fuel, I am going to pull apart carbs and clean them at the start of every season. Even after using fuel stabilizer, I find carbs will still "gum up". I am at a loss as to what to do with fuel injectors! All I could think of is running some sort of fuel system additive through is, but now I can't get it running. I dragged it onto the trailer last night (man are they a pig when not under their own power!) and will take it to the dealer today. I was going to have them do an oil change, and I will probably have them change plugs now as well as I just don't have time.

I am open to any ideas, and would appreciate hearing what other members do for summer storage with FI sleds. I have heard pros and cons about running the sled dry, but I personally don't like running a fuel pump dry.

Thanks for the help.

Just wasn't my day, couldn't get the 700 Grizzly started either. I think I definitly fouled the plug on that. Guess some of these machines don't like -30 weather!

Change the plugs! While you're doing it you might as well install the NGK CR10EK plugs. They are worth 2-3 HP over the stockers. Make sure you get 4 screw on plug top if you don't have them, (little screw on alum. tops don't come with these plugs). The Sea foam will clean the injectors once you get it running. It will be fine. It just fowled the plugs and may have a plugged injector. I however have yet to hear about a plugged injector for the EFI sled, It's not like the old RX-1's that would plug the pilot jets.

Quick question about sea foam. Do you guys just add it to your gas tank and circulate it that way or do you add it directly to the carbs?

ON MY CARBED SLED, I PUT ON TWO FUEL SHUT OFF VALVES. IN THE SPRING I CLOSE THE VALVES(FROM MOTION PRO), RUN THE MOTOR OUT OF FUEL, PULL THE AIR BOX SO I CAN DRAIN THE FLOATS ON THE CARBS, AND THEN CHANGE OIL WHILE ITS HOT

i start mine 1 a week up to temp, spin the track, and rev it up every spring, summer, fall and never any issues.keeps the seals good and battery fresh also injectors.put a good dose of lucas fuel treatment in the tank, that should clean things up! ;)!

I added the two fitcht fuel catalysts to the tank....runs perfect eveytime!

i'v still have my FITCH FUEL CATALYTS in for 5yrs,they do there job. i just like to keep things moving, keeps things wet.its a good thing do! :rocks:
