Problems with Apex GT EC shock?

There was another post just made abuout breaking the wires on the EC shock. But i would like to know how many of you have blown your shock on your 2006 Apex GT or on your 2007 Apex GT.

If the shock does blow, is it garbage? Can it be rebuilt or fixed or are you out $1000? I'm thinking of getting a 2006 GT and it has the original shock with 1800 miles on it. Is it worth to take the chance and buy a 2006 Apex GT or should i go for a Apex ER or RTX. Thanks.
 
There have been several blown shocks and torn cables on the 06s. Take it to the dealer and there is a new route on the cable and updated shock seal. 9 time out of 10 Yamaha will fix this for you or at least good will the parts.
 
The shock can be rebuilt... although most dealers cant do it..

If i had to do over i would get a standard ER instead of the GT or a RTX..
 
The EC shock was a good concept but they should have given a greater range of adjustment.. I can hardly tell the difference from soft to hard.. The revalving is supposed to give a wider range..

Brian, so you wouldn't recommend upgrading a ER shock to the Ohlin's EC?
 
I wouldnt.. just because of the wire..

for some reason the Mono holds a ton of ice around the shock and the wiring just cant take that weight pulling on it when the ice starts to come loose..


But hey thats just my opinion..

Revalving might change the adjustment range of the rebound clicker adjuster, but it does not affect the adjustment range of the electronic compression adjuster.
If you want a wider adjustment range from the electronic compression adjuster you will need to change the piston shaft size, tweak the EC valve or increase the current output from the snowmobile. This is normally not included in a traditional revalving operation.
 
Call Ohlins for a revalve, I had mine done it was $65, they replaced the bad X seal as they call it that causes it to blow. They also valved the shock to my specifications. While I agree the mono skid does build up alot of ice on it but I think it is very tuneable if you get the correct spring and valve the shock correctly. I havent used Hygear or Pioneer so I cant say how their set ups would work, I am sure they do a good job, but I went to the source. I can now drive my GT through about anything without worrying about having a tooth jarred loose from bottoming. Just my .02$
 
I had on 06 gt, and didn't have a problem until I sold it this year, and the new buyer found the wire broken. It worked on my last ride, but broke sometime before I was done and loaded it on the trailer. The adjustment range is noticeable when in short choppy trails, but really isn't worth the extra money to me. I did notice after putting on an 07 snowflap that there was more snow that stayed in the rail area, so this might have contributed to this. Just my thoughts.
 
Shock was rebuilt twice at no cost. Revalved by Bruce at Pioneer Performance. Works much better now. No wire problems at all.
 
My wire has been broke the past month, but I still rode it as it was, I just couldn't adjust it. It's currently at the dealer and the harness is backordered.
 
I also lost the wire and the solinoid was damaged. I like the adjustability and would like the broader range as others have said. Cost me one of the 3 really good week ends we had at the lake......... :o|

But happy the YES covered $ and I am still covered for 3 more years :Rockon:
