I have been thinking about different exhaust options for my XTX and had an idea. I just bought the stock slip-ons off an 08 R1 (with A&R race baffles) cheap. The stock slip-ons are titanium and are light. I have a stock (gutted cat) I can use as a Y pipe. I want to try and make dual exhaust coming out in the stock location under the seat. I don't want to put a new header on just loose the weight of the stock exhaust and make the sled different. Has anyone used a bike slip on and did you dyno the sled to see if the ECU was able to compensate for the better flowing exhaust? Or do I need a power commander. I know my R1 when I gutted the cat and put A&R race baffles in... on the dyno it improved the Air/fuel ratio.

Being completely honest with you, I don't think you're going to lose a lot of weight with duals, Titanium or not. If weight loss is your goal, I'd weigh everything first and see what the total is going to be before getting started. You're right though, it will certainly be different, I just can't see any benefit to using two mufflers instead of one. Now, when I removed my stock muffler, and replaced it with a Yoshimura Titanium RS5 slip on, I noticed immediate top end rpms, and you being an avid roadracer knows what that means. I didn't use a power commander either, and the sled's been running fine without it, plus it runs very well, so I don't think you'll need one. From my experience with Yamaha over the years, just about everything they produce comes rich from the factory, so there's plenty of safe ways to lean them out without sacraficing reliability. My RS5 exhaust mod only weighed 4 lbs total too, so I saved quite a bit of weight there as well. I think I'd give your dual exhaust idea some more consideration though. ;)!

Thanks for the input NyTroMaNIac,
Like I said I got them cheap and can resell them on e-bay for double what I paid for them. So I will weigh everything up and see if it will work then decide. The slip-ons are gutted with the A&R race baffles so they don't weigh much. I was also thinking I may have to cut them down in length and then just pop rivet the end cap back on. Also if I go to just one instead of two is another option.
That RS5 must be LOUD I had the Yoshimura R55 on my R6 and it made my ears bleed! That's another reason I was thinking dual because it would be quieter.
