Question about eps

You will notice it at the end of a ride. Jumping back in forth from RX-1 is instantly noticeable. You work much harder on the RX, so on real cold days I like riding that one.

Still not working I started the sled in the garage the other day and it turned to the right on its own... Any ideas what might be wrong or going on here??

Any update on your eps trouble. Mine is the same way. Eps light comes on, 5 mins after start up. Can't find the problem

I've encountered this recently too. EPS lights up on the dash full time while riding, which indicates a problem with EPS. I turn off ignition and turn back on and the EPS light is off, but comes back on shortly after.

My understanding is that there is a 40amp fuse under the airbox. I think I'll check out the connections. It seems my issue starting to happen a couple of weeks ago when I was doing a little drift busting. Maybe too much snow entered the engine bay and too much moisture got into the connections.

My problems with power steering came back, worsened and now no longer works. After entering the EPS diagnostic mode, I retrieve a code 11, which indicates a fault with the torque sensor. The torque sensor isn't serviceable nor can it be purchased through Yamaha... So I need to replace the whole power steering actuator...big bucks! I've purchased a used unit, so hopefully this will fix my issue.

Anyone else encounter the same fault? Has replacing the actuator remedied the problem?

From the service manual.

Hi Grimm, Sorry your having issues with your EPS. If you don't mind me asking, how many Kms on your sled? Almost 18k on my SE and no problems at all with EPS. I havn't heard of anyone else with issues. So far my SE has been super reliable and I plan on keeping it for a few more seasons. Good luck and keep us informed.

I've clocked just over 14000km on my sled. I wonder if it may have something to do with the aftermarket skis causing more workload on the EPS system. I've installed a couple of pretty aggressive skis over the seasons and lately with USI Triple Threats, when EPS isn't working, it becomes a bear to turn the skis. I made my own "power steering plates" (as USI calls them), and it makes the skis turn easier, but still engages EPS fault.

There are a couple people out in internet land who have experienced failures in their EPS system and either had to change out the steering actuator or power control unit. I even saw some failures on the Yammy Grizzly ATV forums...ironically, identical part number. But the silly thing is, you can't just buy the torque sensor. You have to buy the whole assembly, which is costly ($1450 Cdn + 13% tax). How nuts is that?

Always ran OE ski with Snowtrackers (semi) until bent ski & both left A arms recently. Wanted to try the Tuners so replaced with them. Not quite as good as trackers but never had the light go on either way. You could be right about agressive ski& carbides could trick the system into thinking something is wrong and eventually screwing up the torque sensor. Sucks that you can't just buy the sensor but glad you could find a used unit! At least if it's not the sensor you have the whole unit to play with. Season's pretty much over now but off to Sensplex tonight for the show, not that there is anything special to see, just an outing with the boys.
