Hello everyone, thought I would post this on this side and see if you guys had any experience and or thoughts about what I am thinking about. I put a Backcountry 1.75 on my boosted Nytro XTX last year and really liked it. I rode it a couple thousand miles on the trails in the U.P. of Michigan. After I put on a good set of ice scratchers on, I got along great without a high amount of hy-fax wear running the trails. We also made a 10 day trip out to Wy. and had a great time. My new Apex XTX just came in and I think I want to change the track on it to the Backcountry 1.75 also. My dealer will give me full credit for the new take-off, so now it the time while it is still new to change it if I am going to. Then the Apex will be my primary trail sled. Heres my question, I have been thinking about taking the 1.75 track off the Nytro and put in on the Apex and then get a taller track for the Nytro, since it will be getting used off trail and out west more. Maybe a 2" Challenger or something taller, but don't know how it will hold up on the few times that I ride it on the trail when I take the whole family and go up North. Has any one had any experience with the taller tracks on trails and if so which track and how tall a lug would you recommend. Thanks in advance for your comments.

Id recommend putting the powerclaw on your nytro. Its only a 2.25 lug and works well off trail. As long as your not doing 100mph runs down the trail the taller lug tracks hold up fine. its the speed that kills them.

I ran a 153x2.25" challenger Extreme track on my nytro on the trails quite a bit. I had to cut it down to 2" not because the sled was over heating or had bad slide wear but mainly because the lugs were folding over under accel and deccel. Some of the lugs were cracking with only a few hundred miles but once I cut them down to 2" I put 700-800 miles on the track without signs of wear.
Ice scrathers are key in tall lug tracks so you have that already taken care of. If I had the money to do it again I would use a powerclaw track and cut it down if needed.
Just an FYI my Challenger Extreme cut down to 2" was stiffer then my buddies 144x1.75 back country. So it hooked up very well in all conditions.

They work fine, just don't give the same traction on hardpack as a "trail track". Like mentioned earlier, high speeds usually don't work out so well with low snow conditions.

FWIW, I feel my CE 162x2.5 has held up extremely well.
Being turboed, it tends to go round fast now n then.
The lugs are all intact, and look pretty good for what they've been through. The outside lugs get a bit beat up from the lack of clearance in the stock Nytro tunnel...
I have, I'd guess, ~1000 miles on mine.
Where tall lugs really seem to be horrible, is in the grass.
The couple times I grabbed a handful on grass it just wanted to spin...
EDIT: If your primary goal or usage is trail riding, I would avoid 2.5" lug tracks. If your just concerned about a low percentage of usage on the trails, its no biggy.
