my 07 gt has 12,000 kms on the track and two stud pull outs, so I have decided to change it over the summer, just wondering if you have to replace the lower seal on the chaincase when I replace the track, also wondering if I should put a new jackshaft in while I have everything apart, also wondering if I should change the driveshaft and jackshaft bearing as well, how often is everyone replacing the bearings, does anyone every replace the chaincase bearings. they seem to last alot longer because they are lubricated with chaincase oil, the sled has 12,000 km on it, driveshaft bearing has been replaced twice, jackshaft bearing has been replaced once. I know some riders are removing the seal and lubricating it that way, I dont really like to use that method, anyone have any ideas on the subject, I only plan on keeping the sled one more winter, wondering if the bearings and jackshaft will hold out for one more season.

well it would be a good thing to tell the person you sell it to that the bearing were just replaced rather then them buying it and they blow out after 5 miles.

seem like the chaincase bearings last a really long time, I have never had one fail in all the years I have been riding yamaha, I do change the oil in the chaincase twice per season, what kinda mileage is everyone getting out of the chaincase bearings, has anyone had one fail?

It's hard to say put alot of money into a sled you are going to sell soon. But on the other side you can get a higher $ when selling. I have been replaceing the bearings around 5000 miles, even with lube they get flat spots. Lost a bearing on my SRX and it took 800 bucks to replace it. You do it now thats one last thing that could end a weekend away from home sooner.

With the shaft I would just look for cracking.

So how old is the actual driveshaft?? They seem to fail at 8000 to 10000 miles. In the past, I have had plans to trade sleds in 1 year, but my plans have went south do to employment changes. Heck, I used to trade every three years, but now I am riding a 5/6 yr old sled. Point is, I would change all bearings and seals that you will already have apart, which includes the chaincase, plus the left lower driveshaft. I also would replace the drivshaft, if it is at or above 8000 miles. If you sell the sled, it is a good selling point, but if you keep it, you will be glad that you went the extra mile. ;)!

thinking of chaning the jackshaft bearing, the lower driveshaft bearing, not a big deal , I have changed them before, will most likely change the jackshaft as well , will change all the bearing on the chaincase side as well, what about the lower driveshaft, how hard is it to get the drivers off, would I have to take that to a machine shop to have the pressed off. thought the lower driveshaft should last alot longer, maybe the life of the sled, anyone now where I can get some good deals on these parts, bearings, seals, jackshaft, driveshaft, yamaha dealers up here in canada charge full pop for parts, no discounts.

question about part cross reference

anyone know if a jackhaft from a 2008 fx nytro rtx will work on a 2007 apex gt, the first three numbers of the part code are different but the rest of the part number is the same.

^^^ what Yamaha1973 said, different part #'s listed on those shafts so they are not interchangable.

I get my parts from http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/pages/OemParts . 30% discount for ordering online. I would compare prices before ordering. Some prices are cheaper in Canada than the states, plus u'r 2 hrs from the border. I have my parts shipped to the border which is 40 min. away. If it was me I would not change any of it if you are only going to keep it one more year. Mine has 20,000 k on it and I replace the bearing last year because I had everything out to replace the track. Drive it like u stole it.

I'm not criticizing any one that beats the hell out of their sled (to each his, own), but I haven't had anything break, except for the exhaust pipes.

16,000 miles.
