How is the wind protection of the Nytro, is their anything that you have done to improve it. Also the sit down ride (trail riding) of this sled how is it? Am really leaning towards an XTX, but when I ride with the Family I don't want the sled to man-handle me. I know they said the new front end geometry is a big improvement. Any info would be appreciated. Thank You.

Wind protection? What wind protection? You'd have to get the high windshield with side deflectors or else you're out in the cold.
I'm not sure about the 2009s, but the 2008s WILL manhandle you when left stock. In my opinion it takes a fair bit of strength just to hang on, especially WOT on the lake with all the wind hitting you.

Hopefully the front end changes they made to the 2009's will make it a little easier to handle. I did demo an 08 at my dealer - the wind protection is not there & handleing was rough. I was thinking I would definately need a taller windsheild, but was wondering what others thought about wind protection.
Is it functional as a sit down trail sled???
Thanks for the reply Jesster!

Tie yourself to the front of a greyhound bus & cruise down the hi-way at 65 mph. Feels about the same!

Rode all winter with the stock rtx bug shield and some good klim gloves and I never got cold. It was in -20's and colder a few times. Just have a set of gauntlets in case. I put some usi ski's on and made a few suspension adjustments and loved the way my sled handles. I wouldnt be afraid of picking up an extra 08.

I can tell you that the 09 out handles the 08... I test rode them both on the same trails on the same day..... They both could have used some TLC on the set-up... To be quite honest after I rode them I told my wife and riding buds that the trails sucked now... So on the way back to our rooms I rode on the same trail with my "WELL" set-up vector.. Yup.. To me no comparision......... My vector was so much more stable.. Sorry, I told the yammie rep that he should have had me fill out the survey form on my sled if he wanted a good report. MM.

wind protection? what is this you speak of? lol
i have to hold on pretty good on the lakes especially if i'm going against the wind, but i'm not small so i can't hunker down and try to hide behind what little is there.

Sit down ride is good once the sled is dialed in and set up for you.
Shim stock skis and ad shaper bars and take some air out of the floats. My RTX was handling great until I had a little mishap.
Med windshield and side deflectors at least and riding below zero temps then get the tall.
09s should handle better.

These Nytro's are not for everyone, if your more of a sit back and cruise kind of rider the apex or vector is for you. But if you like attacking the woods or trail then this sled is alot of fun to ride especially with all the bottom end torque.

LOL......................., ain't that the truth! No word of a lie there. It's amazing how much you upgrade your clothing when you buy this sled. I came of a edge chassis which was one of the best sitdown sleds I ever had, but if the Nytro had more wind protection and a little better handling I would pick the Nytro. I think it's very comfortable, seat is awesome, and for the first time in 20 years I have not had any bad backs, shoulders, so on so forth. Testimate to this sled in my opinion. Warmers absolutly SUCK!Turk said:Tie yourself to the front of a greyhound bus & cruise down the hi-way at 65 mph. Feels about the same!

Its a great sled, but the hand warmers DON'T work. Both my Phazer and the Nytro warmers are worthless, unless its 30 outside or higher. For those of you that are going to say that mine work fine, that nice for you, but mine don't and its a common problem the new Yamahas. My 05 Vector was the same. Making a hand warmer that works is sled building 101 and it makes me so mad that I have to stop every 15 minutes to warm my hands.

Yes and no. I do about 25% of my riding on smooth trails. I wouldn't say I'm impressed by the sit-down functionality but it can be done. Keep in mind it's built for stand-up riding in rough or no-trail conditions.
