I own a set and bought a set of the powder wings from Simmons while at the World's Sowmobile Expo in West Yellowstone. I was wondering if anybody else has them and what they thought. Or am I the guinea pig sp? for these?

I haven't had a chance to try them out, but rest assured I will post next season about them to give my thoughts about whether or not they improve powder turning and trail riding on packed trails with fresh powder ( where most have complained of a slight push through corners). Here is a pic for those that haven't seen these yet ;)!

I hope they were free, 'cause those would be the easiest things there are to make. Thanks for the picture though, now I can make some.

I wouldn't expect those to make any difference in powder riding, since you wouldn't be turning by steering there anyways. It may make some difference on powder covered trail though.

In powder they are supposed to stop the outside ski from diving while turning. It may not be a problem for me ,you or any other experienced rider but my wife can't do the counter steer/ pull it over routine yet. And no they weren't free. $20.00 US and there is more to them than whats shown in the picture. They are angled out slighltly and reinforced from the back. They also have the edges curved and angled so when the skis turn they don't act like a flat surface and pull the ski under. I make more than $20.00 an hour so I figure time + materials and tools will be close by the time you measure cut drill etc. And I don't have much as far as tools to make my own, hence easier to buy and possibly cheaper to boot.

Yeah but I'm the epitome of your name sake :lol: I>E> you are willing to take the time to make longer control rods for the rear; me on the other hand say #$%&* it and buy the MPI kit.

Nah, I'm not very good with fabrics. :moon:

As far as the control rods... thats not all I'm fabricating for the rear end this year... also going for longer W-arm and rear bracket (not sure what its called). Ever see an 15" proaction? :shock:

Nope, never sar a 15" pro action.

Why waste the time LB, the proaction is a lost cause and I think Yamaha themself have finally seen the light.... :o| :moon:

I'm not too concerned with the ride, but I believe that with the geometry changed the way I have in mind, it should ride as well or better than anything.

I'm;
1) Not doing this to lighten it up,
2) Not doing this to make it ride better,
3) Doing this entirely to change the radius of motion that the rail follows when the skid is compressed, which should allow me to run the track tight as a guitar string (if I should wish to), and still have the skid be able to compress without trying to stretch the track by 2 inches.

Please post you findings, I am very interested in theory and design... ;)! will you desing be utilizing all the stock shocks??

I'm not sure if I'll be using the stock shocks or not. Initially, I will be, but it will probably bottom too easily with the additional leverage that the arms will have on the shocks, so my gut tells me that I'm going to have to go with custom extra hard... maybe not though, since it will have extra stroke.

Oh BTW: If it works out and anybody plans to follow my lead, it absolutely will NOT be possible to use a 121" track on it, since that would require shorter rails to deal with the longer arms. It will be possible to stretch a shorty into 136 or 144. A Warrior would have to be stretched to 144 or longer. For any track length, the amount of rubber to ground contact will be like the next size smaller, so a 136 will have the footprint of a 128 (yeah, thats an 8), and a 144 will have the footprint of a 136.

Nobody jump the gun here. No sense in more than one person possibly wasting a skid.
