First Time working on Yamaha clutches. Always had Polaris until now. I hear alot on this site about Degree of twist for the secondary spring. So I decided to take it apart and get to know it a little better. I see it came stock with a 60 degree twist. Right now I have stock clutching. Will probably get a set of HH in the future. My question is. Will the stock secondary perform better for more mid range or top end with a different degree of twist? If so, what should I be setting it at? Thanks. :?:

Hey Big Black, here is some feedback from Sketr2 on secondary clutch adjustment that seemed to work pretty well:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The trails need snow so the puppies felt it was time to play on the river by the cabin with 3 to 6 inches of snow. The puppies were here to set up their machines for the winter riding and they went out to test.

They used my warrior as the base test machine. The warrior has an M10, 126 picks and 519 miles. The warrior ran about 122 on the Speedo. The maintenance RPM was 9600 until about 70 mph and then went to 9800. On top end it read 10000.

Polaris 800 XC has 192 picks, a HC clutch kit and 1750 miles. It was very quick last year.

04 REV 800 XHO has 192 picks, a HC clutch kit and 400 miles. Tuned by a local hot dog this fall.

03 F7 has about 162 picks a HC clutch kit and 2300 miles. Tuned last year and was the fastest of their group last year.

They lined up the warrior and my sons Polaris with the following results: The warrior was the fastest out of the hole and pulled to 4 lengths and stayed there to 110 plus.

Warrior and 800 REV: The warrior was the fastest out of the hole and pulled out 2 lengths to 50 when the REV caught up and pulled about 3 lengths by 110 plus.

Warrior and F7: The results were the same as with the REV.

The testing went on for several rounds and everyone was happy and came back to the cabin and verbally worked me over. We agreed that the RPM on the warrior seemed low so we tightened the secondary up about 20 degrees above stock. The maintenance RPM climbed to 9800 until about 50 then crept to 10000 and finally to 10200 on a top end reading of about 130 on the speedometer.

We lined up again and the warrior was next to the F7. The warrior pulled 2 lengths out of the hole and increase the lead to about 4 lengths at 110 plus. The warrior was still pulling at the end of the run. The F7 and REV were side by side all the way. Several more runs were made with the same results. Now I don’t have to take crap from the puppies any more.

PS The warrior was the most stable at high speeds. We didn't run the clutched warrior because it doesn't have picks.
