Looking for some opinions on guys that swapped out their ripsaw for the camoplast intense 1.5" I read alot of posts from my search and some say the ripsaw is better on hardpack and some say the intense works just as well. For the beginning of the winter most of my riding is on groomed trail....probaly 80% of it. But most of march into april its off trail and the ripsaw sucks in these conditions but I was impressed with the hardpack trail performance of it. So basically would like to hear from apex owners who made the switch and if they were happy with it. Its a few pounds heavier so was there a significant loss in top end speed or just a few mph?? Good track for hardpack too?? Give me your .02 cents please..........Thanks

I'm in the process of installing the 136 version, and from what I can see, with a 23 tooth upper, and proper clutching, there is no speed penalty over stock. If anything you may pick up some extra speed along the way if you perform other mods along the way while you have everything out on the floor. If absolute top speed on hardpack/ice is your desire, get a Predator. If you want your fillings ripped out when you pull the trigger in softer conditions, buy an Intense. Do a search on the subject, there are a few good posts.

I absolutely LOVE the Intense track ! If you ever plan on riding the deep, there is no other way to go !

Forgot to add this is going on an 07rtx, I plan on going external drive and fully clipped, The intense fully clipped is only 1lb heavier than a fully clipped ripsaw. I did read quite a few posts about this track but opinions seemed to vary concerning the hardpack performance. I know the rip is great on the trail but is the intense comparable on hardpack or is it noticably worse or just as good?? Max speed isnt my biggest concern but was just curious what to expect for a loss on top. I'm sure the 22 top gear should keep things pretty close.

Put an Intense on my 07 Attak. Absolutely amazing on hard packed trails, no regrets (I ran about 80% groomed trails myself this year.) Hooks up like mad. Period. Helps it notably in the deep but nothing will make this sled a true powder sled. As for extra weight/paddle resistance scrubbing speed? My top speedometer reading was 122 on a smooth railroad grade with the Intense track. Mechanically the sled was bone stock. That's fast enough for me...

I've since sold the Attak and ordered an 08 Dragon Switchback. I also will be buying another Intense track for the new Dragon to replace the stock Ripsaw.

That's gotta tell you something about how well I liked that track...I'm buying it again...

The intense track is great in loose stuff and powder but it will not hook up as hard as the ripsaw on hardpack. It tends to fold the lugs over instead of digging into the snow. Its not a track that i would put on if riding on groom trails alot but if you hit them occasionally it should work decent.

I sold my 1.5 and went back to a Ripsaw. The 1.5 was loose feeling on hardpack. The lugs were too soft IMHO. It was also louder than the Ripsaw on trails.

If the Intense is not as good on trails, what would everybody think is the ultimate trail track?
What is the difference between a 1.5 Rip, and the 1.5 Intense? They both appear to have a similar tread pattern.

The intense has soft paddles paddles with small serations at the tips while the Ripsaw has fairly stiff teeth.
The intense's paddles flop over on hardpack while the Ripsaw's teeth dig in.
IMHO if you do over 50% trail riding the Ripsaw is a pretty tough track to beat. The manufacturers must agree or they all wouldn't be using it :ORC
