I broke the RA cable twice last season. It seems to happen when ice builds up in the tunnel and a search on the site indicates it happens quite a bit to other people.
I know that lots of guys tend to get the adjuster set where they like it and never replace the cable after that. However, has anybody identified a permanent fix for this?

I think the best and cheapest fix is set her and leave her be.

I just tip it to the side and chip the ice off of it before I go out.
It can be a pain but it works.

In 06 both our cables were damaged, dealer warrenteed every thing.
I felt it was that the plastic slider that protects the cable wore a bit and then tips of the track guide clips were able to cut the cable protective sheath. I ground off all the track clip tips down to the rubber drive lugs on the left side of the track. Although I had all new stuff, I rebuilt the protective sheath with a piece of plastic tube that does not get glass hard in the cold. Since then , no more trouble.

It's difficult for me to determine if I broke the cable when removing the skid or if it was already broken. However it seems that since I replaced the gaurd it hasn't been an issue, that or the fact that I'm much more carefull now when removing the skid. I know that the gaurd on mine became very loose, you can grind down the barrels but it's just a matter of time.

I'd second the removal of the tunnel protectors if your not running STUDS...I'm removing mine, you have alot less ice build up and when you run her hard...it just melts with all the exessive heat from the exhaust and headers and falls off it has nothing to grasp on! also mine sleeps in a heated garage so it unloads all of the ice and snow that causes problems.
