Rail mounted ice scratchers

IMO, I would steer clear of the the TRIC scratchers, I posted about 1 year ago, called "I GOT TRICED". Anyway, long story short. They beat the crap out or your sled panels/skis/paint etc. Anyone thinking of this option, I recommend reading my post first(with pictures).

I read this post "after" installing a set of TRIC's. I ran them for a month last year and didn't have any issues with them. I did install I bolts under the side panels so that I can keep them up when I don't need them so they're not down all the time. I think the problem is that some guys install them with too much down-pressure causing them to bounce around.

- x2. To omuch down force, adn they'll bounce.
- You don't need alot of force. They'll work for ya.

So the instructions say to mount them with the curve (bent) part in the down position. Is that too much down force?

If you look at the pic, I turned mine more clock-wise. (CCW on the other side) to reduce the down-force. I see some people mount them with the cable pointing more downward to increase the down-force

Bradford,

Thanks for sharing your set-up, man are you responsive. ;)! I turned mine to be more like yours to reduce the down force. I have mine mounted on the skid rails.

Good job John ;)! Makes me kinda wish I had of went that route as well.

Once I get the Hartman's mounted up, it will be interesting to see if there is much difference between the 2?

Nice work! i just installed it the same way on my 09 Nytro and 11 Apex. The only worry I have is to the Ice Scrathcer will bounce out of the eye bolt when going down the trail. I guess it can't really hurt.

Here is a pick of my RSI scratchers mounted on my daughters viper skid. I know this is a proaction skid but the basics are the same. I used RSI's boggie adapter and you dont have to remove any wheels. I run tons of ice and these things are awesome.
I have the same skid as well & was wondering if you get enough snow on the hyfax & heat exchangers by having the scratchers that far back on the skid?
It would be nice to be able to mount them in front of the front idler wheels but after giving it much thought, I don't think it's possible.

On pretty much bare ice my skids are packed with snow. In fact i forgot to put them down on a early river run and melted the hyfax to the track. With the scratchers down no problems. Never any overheating also. Wont ride without them now.

I have mine (yamaha accessory catalog ones) mounted about midway down my rails in a vacant hole in the side of the rail. They work well for me helping the slide wear near the back of the skid. That is where I have most of my wear problems as I have been running my track pretty loose. They bend in the rails hasn't been a probelm. I will take some pictures tomorrow night when I go to tinker with my sled. I have it stored elsewhere to where I live. The only problem with where I mounted mine and where you want to mount it on an LTX is I have much longer rails.

What's the distance the bolts are apart from each other? I want to do this to mine but want to make sure they stay up when not in use. Also, it looks like they are at about a 45 degree angle. Is this the best angle so they don't bounce due to too much downward pressure? Thanks for your help and awesome idea!!

scratchers

scratchers are not necessary. just use larger idler wheels or as I did, get the pioneer mounts that lower the stock wheels.
