Anybody out there can tell me how bad your Phazer FX sags out with no one on it? Mine sags out too the rear coupling blocks. Thats about 5-6" of that 16.1in of trave they claim. I am a diehard racer of MX for over 15 years but I think the torsion springs is (innitial spring rate) weak! I know the FX has stiffer rear springs than all models, except the two-up. But the little bumps would be a whole lot smoother if I wasnt riding that deep into the travel. And I am not afraid of pounding a whoop section either but, it seems soft as a marshmellow too me. I think I am going to make front blocks like on the two-up sled and see if I can get this tail up in the air where it should be. Has anybody else done this or have any other ideas. Maybe a Hygear coil-over rear shock would help but damn thats expensive. At least I havent broke my front link yet! Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

I have noticed, and think it's been said that the torsion spring goes soft pretty quick. I'v never actually measured how much mine sags, but did change the setting on the spring to H (hard) from M (medium) to try a eliminate some of the initial sag for this season.

Phazer rear susp.

The factory stuff is junk! I would like to see Yamaha sack up and recall the rear suspension, and up grade the torsion spring with something besides cheap chinese steel!

phazer rear suspension

i have a gt and an fx. the gt has sagged out like your fx has sitting on the rear coupling blocks with no weight on it. i weigh 250# and when i get on it it does not hold up at all, and bottoms out on the smallest of bumps. it is at the dealer right now for warranty amongst other warranty issues. my fx on the other hand does not have this issue yet it only has half the miles of the gt (gt=1000 miles and fx=400)

Mine is a Standard 2200mi.Yes it sags but if set at stiffest setting it is not sagging. That tells me the springs are fine.Shocks especially the rear is bigger issue.Sag isnt a bad thing since it allows the sled to ride low and not be so tippy.Travel isnt lost with sag.Its still used when the skid drops down like into a hole or the air if jumping. The trick is to have control over the travel.Thats what the shocks do.Ideally main thing spring is needed for is ride hieght. This is the way the offroad trucks and almost all racing quads work.

I agree that it should sag when your on it. I guess I should have said, its the static sag (no rider, the weight of the machine) that is too soft. I weigh only 150 ibs wet, and I can bottom this thing out easily. That is why non-aggressive riders think that the ride is slightly stiff. Its because it is already sitting on the coupling blocks and needs twice the leverage to make the suspension work. Shock has nothing to do with the sag, it is the spring only.

Cannodale, do you still have them American works of art? I rode a friends of mine when they tried the MX seen. Wanst a bad attempt except the transmissions werent reliable. Ripped-it at Red Bud, and while doing the old double up before the Monza wall (before they changed the track this year) the damn transmision let go and I cracked my hip and ruined his ride. Had to buy parts for it and I never owned one! It was expensive! I was just curious, dont see them anymore. Thanks for the input.

Nice bike.Yup addicted a quad and a bike and lots of parts.Getting over 60 hp now.Reliably! But I know what you mean.We the public did alot of testing for the factory back when they were still in business.Just think they were fuel injected way back in 2000.

I understand that the shock has very little to do with sag other than the gas charge but it is possible the suspension was designed to sag that much.Never saw the specs.Mine was very plush when set on the med setting.Maybe there is a bad batch of springs on FX models since I dont believe mine ever sagged far enough to engage the coupler.

I have just got done looking at my phazer and am now somewhat worried about the whole sag thing. With out anyweight on the FX, it seems to sag down about half the travel of the suspension. I am going to wait till there is snow and ride the sled the way it is before I start to worry to much and make any adjustments. But I would think that the sled should at least be able to support its own weight, and not have to sag down 5 or so inches with nothing on it.

I mentioned this to the mechanic at my awsome dealer right the first week I bought it last fall(06). Said Ride it. Set it to the stiffest all winter. Sags alot more. With 50lbs of ice sags alot. Mentioned the link issues and the sag to him last week. Said they have a "racer" setup, with srtonger springs, link, underseat ice curtains or whatever they are, and some other minor stuf for like 500 or something$. I was like how about just the beefier springs and Link? he said I'd be at that price already cause the springs are 130 or something apiece and the link is 180 or something. I only weigh 150 and I think it's nonsense for the sled to squat like a girl dog without me even on it! I shounld not have to buy heavy racer springs for my light frame. I bet the links are breaking cause #1 the springs are bottoming out and slaming the force forward through the link, #2 cause the links are week and cheap. I've thought about blocking it and engineering it but I'd rather beefier springs at not my expence. I'd gladly install them with the link and fan myself but I don't want to pay extra for bad engineering. Other than that I love my latest sled and first yamaha. And by the way nothing has broke yet, I'm just worried from reading too much TY.

I agree I am worried as well from reading to much TY. I just hope that when winter comes, the sled rides the same as it did last year and that the 6 or so inches of self sag either goes away or is not noticed. But I am kind of having my doubts.
