I know there are alot of posts on this topic, but it does seem to be a serious issue and I wanted to share my situation with everyone. My wife's FX had the broken link issues twice last season. The second time the dealer was able to get the updated link and front pivot arm installed. That all happened in the first 800 miles, and after those parts were installed all seemed to be ok. Well, last weekend we made a trip up north with some friends to do some riding, and well into the the 2nd day my wife noticed the suspension had gotten very bouncy again. Rode it back to the cabin and loaded it up. Dropped it back off at the dealer on Sun night on the way home. He called this morning and said when they pulled the skidframe out they found the front pivot arm had broken again. The sled has about 2400 miles on it now, and I was really hoping we had all the bugs out of the sled. We've had the steering recall done. Had the fan installed. Had the updated suspension parts installed. Had the clutch shimmed to make the reverse work. Had the tunnel side panels installed which did not cure the ice buildup on the running boards, we had to install the Excell tunnel panel to cure that. Have had the hard cold start issues a couple times and the dealer is going to install the cold start kit while it is there in the shop. I really didn't expect to have this kind of trouble with a Yamaha, and I'm sure glad I purchased the 3 year YES when I bought it because I can see it is going to get used, and used often. I have owned 16 various new Yamahas since 1999, snowmobiles, motorcycles, ATV's and a dirt bike and this is the only one I have ever had issues with. I wouldn't be so upset but even with the warranty coverage the failures and breakdowns have cost us more headaches and lost riding time than I even care to mention. Sorry to beat a dead horse but thought some of you might like to know, the updated suspension parts may not be the answer to the problem!

So the Billet aluminum piece broke?I am sure something happened but I for one really have to see a pic of the pieces before making any rash decisions.Last few who said the 08 parts broke it was a bad shock and other a bolt that fell out.Now when dealer said pivot he may have meant the pivot the bogeys are attached t
ne the shaft also bends on 07's.If its that it wouldnt suprise me all that much. But that is not the link or the arm which are parts we broke before.Just want to be as informed as possible. Not doubting anything you are saying.Hope you understand.

I dont think it was the billet aluminum linkage piece. By the looks of that part it would be pretty hard to break that without having other damage. He said it was the front pivot arm. I have not seen the sled yet since it has been at the dealer so I don't know exactly what part broke. If I have time I will try to get some pictures and post them. The problem is we have another riding trip planned this weekend and I am going to be under the gun to even get the sled back in time to leave Fri morning. Luckily I have an excellent dealer working on the sled and he is doing everything he can to get it rideable for me. At the very least I will get a detailed explanation of what part broke and let everyone know. I know there alot of "trollers" out there and I am not one of them. Like I said, I'm just trying to share my experiences. I did call the Yamaha customer relations line today to try to get the ball rolling and make sure the dealer was getting the parts as quickly as possible. I first talked to a CSR who took bunch of info from me and then connected me to a product specialist, who told me that the dealer had already been in contact with them about the problem and that parts were on the way. We'll see, hopefully everything will fall into place.

Well, I picked up the sled on the way up north Thurs afternoon. I could not see the old arm because Yamaha wanted it back right away, and they had already sent it out. He did show me where the old arm broke, it was right where the pivot arm and the shock link bolt together. My wife and I put on about 220 miles over the weekend and everything seemed ok. I guess we'll see how this one holds up. Maybe the old one was just a fluke and had a poor weld or something.
