The 2010 Red Lake I-500 cross country race is on for this friday, saturday, and sunday Jan 15-17. It sounds like there is a good amount of snow in the area which should make for a great (and probably rough) race.

Who do you think will win the 500 this year? Go to the http://www.usccracing.com website right now and cast your vote! Can Cory Davis keep the momentum rolling from his win in Grafton and claim the 500? How about the veteran cross country racers...guys like Gabe Bunke, Corey Davidson, and Brian Dick can never be counted out....especially at the 500!
Nathan Titus and Ross Erdman will be racing their factory Nytros, although Erdman is only entered in the Open class as he's on one of the hand built sleds. Tune in and cheer them on!

So far Corey Davidson has the most picks on winning this year. If you haven't voted yet, http://www.usccracing.com/news_2010/011110_i500_pro_600_poll.php click hethe link to go do it now.
Still haven't heard officially that Bryan Dyrdahl will be racing. One of the rumors is that he'll be riding the '04 REV he won it on back then...I guess we'll see come friday.

I'll be curious to see if Bunke can get the Rush on the podium. I wonder if Davidson will be running an IQ again?
Yam177, good luck in your race! Good to see a Yamaha out there. Judging from the results in the Grafton 100, the new Cat Sno-Pro 500 was the ride of choice. Pretty smart of Cat to release that sled.

Race Course Maps are up. Looks like a river run to TRF from the casino each day and then pretty much all ditch running. It was always kind of cool when the course when into the woods on the reservation...at least made for some varied terrain. Oh well, this course will be very easy to follow by car.

I wonder why Davidson isn't running a Rush. I have my suspicions (like the rear skid won't hold up and it doesn't ride as well as Polaris marketing claims when being pounded on a race course) but don't know for sure.
Up here the rumors are the Iron Dog guys are finding the Rush doesn't have the durability of a traditional skid.

Erdman is out.....broken clutch
Corey Davidson (former Yamaha racer now eiding Polaris) is out as well
I think that means there are no former winners left, so there will be a 1st time winner for sure.

Ok back from the first day. I am in 9th in expert 85 improved. I am 19th in expert 85. There are only three Yamaha's left as Erdmans sled blew a clutch. and the two other nytros are out. Jamie Paquin broke a front torque arm and limped it in but ran long on the repair and took a 30 min penalty.
The cats are fast after there new reflash. My clutching was off for the conditions and I also take a "header" at 65 MPH on a river turn. Shook me up a little but got remounted and back on the way. Aslo crahsed in a windblown field when the sled swapped out.
So we got it re clutched and we will see what tomorrows race brings. We ran 170 mile or rouch ditches and slush filled rivers with some open water today. Tomorrow some more river and alot of ditch running.
So off to the shower and will fill you in on tommarrows run.
21 sleds out so far tough course on equipment

Ok in from Day two. it was 180 miles and almost ran out of fuel on the first leg.
Wind blown ditches with frozen hard drifts created some real messes. I crashed a few times on time breaking the lower cover off the sled allowing snow to pack the clutches. So every deep drift would oile snow intp the clutches. After the second fuel stop we ran a short rifer section and back to the ditches on one road aproach it was whopped out and I swapped out and broke a front ski tip
Yikes 50 miles till the end. I tried to run hard but the tip keep digging in I finally nursed the sled in. the last 15 miles were interesting rough dangage ditched with rocks stumps and sections of open water. yea water skipping int \a 90 degree bank with a left turn... That was fun
Well back to the repair session since now power tools allowed during the 1 hour repair we made a duct tape lower cover to kep the snow out. After replacing the ski and setting the toe we found the track almost loose enough to derail. Got everything fixed te best we could. Also the left frame is tweaked.
well another 180 miles in the book looks like this years race will be pver 500 miles.
another 31 sled out today so we are at 51 sled out for the day.
I am the only Yamaha left so we will try to bring it home in one peice.
I sit 7th in expert 85 improved and 15th in expert 85 stock.
hopeing for a clean fast run tommarow

yup it was real rough. Corey Davis a pro Artic Rider sayid it was worse than almost an snow X traxk and there were time he was scared. I had some harry sections. Going 80 MPH in the ditch and hitting a unseen frozen kicke that sends you 4 feet in the air into another hole and kicker gets interesting and scary. I saved most of them
I think they had two broken legs in that section 50 miles of that stuff. no brakes all on the gas. i am very beat up and sore
