If your mostly trail riding, do not go to 1 1/2". This will increase vibration and increase the distance between a well groomed trail's loose snow and your hyfax. 1 1/4" is plenty.
I assume you are not looking at studding? Trying to get stud to hold in a 1 1/2 " track is very unlikely. Or, ... try a 1 1/4" Ice Ripper with the studs built in. While it is not as agressive as picks, it is much saffer than w/o studs.
Besides, these tall tracks tear the heck out of the trails. However,, ... If you are going to go a lot more off the trail, then you may want to consider going taller than 1 1/4". But, then match that new track up with some skis that will float a bit better.
