Need a little help/advise.
I was installing my skins front end and snapped the tie rod off inside of the steering rod where it meets the pivot arm on the steering post.
My question is, I have the tie rod unbolted but can not get it to come out of the pivot arm.

Is it pressed or threaded in. I checked the manual and did a search but was unable to find anything specific to this issue.

Any insight is appreciated.

Kope.

sorry i cant help, but how in the heck did you snap it off! i just removed everything for my front end too. cant you just unthread the broken tie rod piece off of there?

broken end

I was really surprised, i met a little resistence when I was threading it onto the tie rod end and then all of the sudden it gave way.
I am thinking there may have been a previous issue or just a faulty rod end from the start.

Either way... it sucks!

Got a call into Scmurs already for a replacement arm and calling the dealer monday for the rest.

You likely had a cracked tierod end from some event in the past...it happens.

The tie rods are on a taper. You can use an air hammer to hit on the nut side to loosen or some kind of wedge between the joint and the pivot arm. Have a look at the link below. Its for the install of the relocator, but the process is the same.

Also, you should be able to remove the threaded part of the tie rod that's still stuck in the steering arm. If it breaks off, it normally doesn't mess up the threads. Might take an easy out, but normally it just unthreads.

Good luck

Tie rod

Thanks for the info Mike.
I tried an easy out yesterday right away and no luck.
However, maybe heating it up will help loosen the threads and make it possible to back it out.

Bill,
Thanks again for the compliment and the deal on the parts.
Ya sure you don't want to sell me the black Yammi handle bar pad yet? It would really finish it off. LOL.
I have a few more things i want to do before the snow flies but it's pretty close to being done.

I am very curious to see what's cooking in your mind for your new orange/black Nytro.
Mr. Ulmer and crew are good people and they know there stuff. I've dealt with him several times.

Well it's fathers day and I am off to the "bat cave" to enjoy my gift... an afternoon of uninterupted time to work on my sled.
ah the joy!.

Thanks again guys.

Loctite right? I hadn't thought of that. Heat will help for the red but it will likely be a PITA to get it out. I am avoiding using the stuff in places where its impossible, or nearly impossbile to remove.. I made the mistake of putting blue loctite on all the Skinz A-arm mounting bolts, and when I had to remove them to upgrade to the 5/8" joints, I basically wrecked all four nuts and bolts on the lower arms. That is using 6 sided sockets and an 18" torque wrench on the nut and a closed end wrench on the bolt and it still knocked the corners off the fasteners. If you put red on there..... and because space is so limited, it could be a dremel grinder job to remove...ouch.

Well, sounds like a project for the man cave on Father's Day!

Enjoy!

Tir rods

Bingo! That is why i put a call into Scmurs right away.
I figure it might be easier to just buy a new steering rod (if available) and work a little over time to pay for it then go through the effort, anger and beer (that's the big one) to try and salvage it.

But i'll give it a try anyway just to say I did... Besides i need to listen to the new Van Halen I just received for father's day as well and this seems like as good as a time as any.
