Replacing Apex RTX with Venture GT - thoughts?

I intentionally purchased an 08 Venture GT last year for the carborated version after suffering some fuel injection issues with my AC T660 non-turbo. You are right the Yamahas are set up a bit stiffer than the Cat, but my dealer really hit the set up spot on for me. I rarely ever have a ski off the ground, and I had 6 inch woody's dualies installed from the start. I have reached a top speed after break in of 103 on the speedometer, not sure what that was on GPS. I suffered a bit at first over the carborated and fuel injection dilemma, but I have been very pleased with the Yamaha and have not regretted my decision. I ride mostly solo but enjoy the ability to take my 10 year old grandson when I can.

I ride a 06 Venture & 06 Vector

Hello, I happened to see your note. I live in Brockport and probably ride most of the same area & trails that you ride. Old forge, tug hill and local trails.

1. Like someone pointed out, the Venture will barely fit into my triton 10 ' trailer. I built a small ramp into the front of the trailer so I could drive the machine further into the nose of the trailer without hitting anything. This allows me to keep the back rest on but I removed part of the luggage rack anyway because it's still very close. Also had to cut 1" off the top of my windshield cause the ramp raised the machine a few inches and clearance was close with the top of the trailer down.

2. Compared to the Vector, the Venture steers harder for me, and does tire me out a little more after a full day of riding, but I've done 150+ miles on some days and still felt pretty good at the end. I love the ride quality and the tall windshield of the Venture. This year I shimmed the ski's at the pivot point and the machine feels like it's turning way easier, although I've only ridden 80 miles so far.

3. On wide open, long radius turns like you find on trails 1-2 or 3 in old forge the Venture feels perfectly at home going well over the speed limit-ha-ha. And on the flats It is smooth and stable, it reminds me of my Dads 76 Cadillac coupe deVille. I go a lot faster on the Venture than I do on the Vector on the flats just because it feels so much more stable. But for me, the Vector does better on the short radius turns. The Venture makes me a little nervous If I try to make short fast turns; feels a little tippy.

4. Both machines have the same engine and they act pretty much the same. I've only topped them out once, on hard packed fresh snow, both were in the low 90's. The fuel injection on new machines is a plus.

5. Here's the Kicker: I'm in my mid 60's and my son is early 30's . We both ride the two machines I've discussed, and whichever one he is on I can't stay with him anyways-ha-ha. But he likes the Vector better and while he's bigger than me, he concurs that the Venture turns a little harder.

6. I'm thinking of a new Vector ltx next year, seems like it might be just right for me, but you never know. I need a two place machine for when my spouse comes along, but have taken off the back rest and rear seat for solo rides and you can definitely feel the difference. I don't have enough experience to comment on the new Ventures.

Hope this helps!

I don't know what chassis it't based on, its an 07.

It handled large moguls very well even with my dad on there, he's a 6'4" bigger guy. I think the long track evens out the big moguls.

Its not hard to turn at all, but that's keeping a reasonable speed. Someone elses post mentioned how much you weigh and your ability to handle it. I think there's some truth to that, but I can handle it no problem at 165 lbs.
