Replacing rear shock 16 Apex

I am in the process of making a YES warranty claim for my 2016 Vector XTX that has a blown rear shock at 639 miles. I am going to use the above information to better inform the dealer doing the repair and submitting the claim. They were unaware of the updated shock (8LB-47480-00-00) until I sent them the attached Tech Exchange document below. I would note that the date of the document is 2/23/17 and shows all the Apex and Vector models for which the updated shock is applicable, which in and of itself contradicts what Yamaha told you. (I'm assuming you spoke with them after that date). I'm currently riding in the Rangeley, ME area and I was fortunate that the shock did not fail until the end of yesterday's ride as I was backing up, positioning the sled to load onto my trailer. When it collapsed it also sucked up and tore off the snow flap. I'll post when I get a response to my claim.

Did you get this fixed under the Yes warranty? Did they put in the updated shock and cover your snowflap?

Since the shock blew, do you think the sled could be towed this way without doing any damage.

No, it was not covered under the YES warranty. In fact shocks are explicitly excluded. If it had happened within the initial warranty it would have been covered. I was 2 months past. I did get Customer Service's attention when I explained that it was my understanding that a service bulletin had been issued on the same original shock for the Apex and that free replacements had occurred. However Customer Service came back and said no service bulletin per se was ever issued. I confirmed with my local dealer. A Tech Exchange document, attached below, was published showing the upgraded shock as an available accessory with applications for all the Single Shot suspensions.
I did replace the original with the upgrade, and I"ll see about rebuilding the original for a spare. A HUGE shout-out to Yamaha dealer Whittemore & Sons in Skowhegan, ME for getting me back on the trail so quickly. Terrific customer service.

Not sure, as once the shock collapses you're essentially riding on the track. I was fortunate that mine happened at the end of the ride so I didn't have to consider it or confirm what clearance there may or may not be. But if you're on the trail what else can you do?
