Reverse adj. and chaincase oil change

Took my second ride on the Attak today. Love it so far. Can't believe how smoooth these sleds are. Reverse worked up until unloading tonight, then it grinded 3 different times. Someone mentioned having to lengthen the linkage? Is that correct?

Should I change the oil in the chaincase now to get any metal out that may be in there? How do we change oil in these. My Arctic Cats had a drain plug inside the tunnel. Do these have a plug to drain it or do I have to take the cover off?

What chaincase oil do you guys run in the Yamahas? The manual says 75W or 80W. Would 75W-90 synthetic be alright?

Yup same location on the drain plug. Hold 8.5 US oz. I use Klotz synthetic with graphite in my RX1. I looked at the 75w-90 too, but that's a little thick in my opinion.

Does your RX1 have reverse? If so, do the reverse equipped machines take 8.5 ounces, also?
Just wondering as I just put around 8 oz. in my Attak and it reads well above the arrows on the reverse indicating side of the dipstick.

Not sure about the Attak. The RX1 manual calls for 8.5 for both. My RX1 DOES have reverse and it takes 8.5. Dunno. If it says full, its full. Run it a bit and recheck, if its between the arrows, must be good to go!

Yes, you need to adjust the linkage to start the reverse grinding...I am not quite sure how to do it because my dealer performed the service. The linkage is part of the reverse lever and there's a locknut on the shaft connected to the outside shift handle. It needs to be loosened just a little bit. Maybe the real mechanics on this site can help you more than I can because all I can tell you is to take it to the dealer...it's about a two minute fix.

I believe the dipstick has two lines. One line says STD and the other line says REV. Fill to the REV line if you have reverse.

Had this happen to me last year

This is supose to be done by the dealer it is part of the "PREP Work" for the sled. I had this happen to me last year on a long trip and was afraid to put it into reverse. As far as fixing the problem yes you have to extend the linkage and in doing so its easier to do with the brake caliper removed. I changed my chain case oil this year and there was no filings(removed the cover). So if your sled has not done this vary much than just adjust the linkage.

I have good luck with 75/90 mobile 1 syn. & energy release. I been doing this in 4 dfferent sleds, going back to 95. As far as the amount, The manual says nothing. Put in a little at a time and check it with that dip stick. I havent changed mine yet but it should not take alot 6-8 oz.??

On the rx1 the drain plug was under neith by the bulkhead,it appeared at first glance there was no plug,but it does have one,now the 06 sleds dont know,but i bet it in the same place,and as far as gear lube i use just 75-90 gear oil from napa,it cost lots less and you can get it anyplace,as far as synthetic goes ya its better,but how much better?? i have friends that run it and mine w/old 90 weight and when we change gears it all looks the same and chain and gears are still looking great,and as far as extra speed w/synthetic BS cant tell,none there..
