Probably not what you are looking for, but I found these to be pretty innovative.

not bad, not sure how they would work with not much pressure on the ground.
Those cable scratchers dont put enough down pressure to create enough snow and they fall apart too.

I have the slidekicks and don't think they work that well. Cable twist around and pressure doesn't seem to be much. Looking for something to mount at the front of skids-probably MPI's.
Went thru a set of hyfax in 450 miles0so I need to find something that works. Maybe the 2 1/2" bolt thru the ski also.

I have no experience with these products but there's lots of talk on the following site ( I know it will be painful for some guys to look at this site - ahah) about ice scratchers and ski fins:

Slidekicks
We put a pair on both our Nytros last week and ran them about 225 miles. They seem to work pretty well. The cable is real heavy and looks durable. They kick up an ok amount, but could be better. At first we mounted them in the front hole of 3 existing holes on top edge of rail just as the instructions showed. This was just too far back most the snow missed the track,so I drilled a hole in the rail as far forward as I could before it starts to bend upwards. This is a couple of inches lower and about 14 inches further forward. Worked much better. I will be adding an additional set of some type under the front end Sorry sleds are at the cabin, can't send pic.
Dealer gave us 10% off, cost was about $61. Dealer said don't forget to use thread locker Cheers Ty

In the Bush, guys just drill a hole in the back of each ski and install a long enough bolt that will touch the surface of the snow. Cheap, effective, and not damaged using reverse.

That sounds like an interesting option. Would bolts cause any change in handling characteristics as they would seem to cause some drag on the ski? How long a bolt is usually sufficient?

They will definitely cause some drag, but that is offset because you only do it when running on ice or extremely hardpacked, boiler plate type snow. As far as handling concerns, I don't know? I've never ridden a sled equipped this way. I learned of this trick from my buddy who rode a Summit along the Iditirod trial a few years ago. He was pulling a frieght sled so his primary concern wasn't handling. I remember he used reverse and broke one of his scratchers early on and the ski bolt trick was the only option in the middle of nowhere. He said it worked pretty well.

bolts
I have been using bolts throught the back part of the ski where they turn up.Works great and alot of guys around here do it.The only place you have to watch out for is unloading off trailers.
