When I put my sled into reverse it has a tendency to not fully engage and rev really high. has anyone else had this happen? What could it be? Is this anything big???? Sled is a 2011 rs venture. I have about 400 miles on this sled. At the cabin for 3 days of riding. When I am done it will be initial oil change should I get dealer to change oil and check reverse? Or should I do oil myself?

The reverse doesn't alwaus engage like it is suppose to, try going forward a touch then try again.
If that doesn't do the trick, then it is likely out of adjustment(link below)

Still take it to the dealer and tell him about it as it is under warranty, you don't need Yamaha denying a claim because "you tried to fix it"

Both my Yami' when new weren't adjusted that good. Once I did them they are fine. Every once in a while it won't catch and I have to pull ahead a couple of inches then try again. But if it is adjusted right 9 times out of 10 it will go in.

Thanks guys. Makes me feel much better. That sound is down right scary. Mkes you think big issue. Will get that adjustment done this week at dealer. Hopefully. Never had any service done yet but I think new sled easy fix. Hopefully in and out.

I'd change the oil in there too now that you've ground some shavings into it.
Also both my sleds had the specs right but it still ground sometimes. What I did was figure which way the lever had to be pulled to engage and I adjusted it just a hair more each time until it was flawless.
Heres instructions:
Adjusting Step 1 - Upper Linkage
Loosen locknuts and set the length between the locknuts to 27 mm
Tighten locknuts

Adjusting Step 2- Rear Lower Linkage
Loosen locknuts
Turn the threaded adjuster to decrease distance between locknuts
until freeplay is removed, then turn threaded adjuster back 1/4 turn.
Tighten locknuts

This is for my 05 Vector ER

The upper horizontal linkage is pretty simple....1.06" of threads should be showing. The vertical rod is the touchy one. I suggest to anybody that tries to adjust it to remove the threaded assy completely and thoroughly clean and oil the threads before you attempt to adjust it.

The repair manual then says to turn the adjuster so there is zero freeplay "in the direction it can be shortened" (I found this to be key) then turn it the other way 1/2 turn.

Personally if it's under warranty I'd let the dealer fix it.

sorry...got me.

2X on having the gear lube changed when doing the 500 mile oil and filter change. That was all part of my 500 mile oil change/inspection along with full chassis greasing.

I think I will do that. Did you do your own? Where is the drain plug for the gear lube?

Dealer fixed me up in 5 mins with sled still on trailer. That was awesome service on tightening the reverse linkage. I will be doing my own 500 mile oil change as $250 seems a bit steep for doing the oil.

Yep, it is :o|
Your chain case drain bolt is inside the tunnel at the back of the chain case(near your track, small bolt)

I took mine in for the first serving because there was one small issue that I wanted them to be aware of. I also wanted to have the first servicing done by them to have that on my YES record. My servicing was $150 that included the oil/filter, lube and adjustments and inspection.

I did the reverse linkage adjustment today. What a difference! It was 1 1/4 turns out. I only have 311 km on it. Thanks for the info.
