I have a couple of RX1's. they have all the toys added, pilot skis, wide front end, springs, bar, apex seat, articulating risers, upgraded monoshocks, etc. I thought the rode and handled great, which they do.

Then my father bought a 08 vector (we both have phazers as well). I just rode the Vector a bit and was very amazed. It is a whole different sled. It feels like a rev only better, the engine is great, it handles great, rides great, and the big difference is how light it feels.

The modded RX1 handles and rides great, but it's like driving a semi in comparison to a Corvette. The Vector is just easy to handle with very little effort.

The question I have is how does the Apex compare and how does the old vector compare. What are your observations?

I'd really like to know if the Apex feels similar to the 08 Vector. I'm trying to decide what to put on my 09 wish list.

I'm thinking unless they come up wit a trail version of the Nytro that has decent range, thats out for me.

I own an Attak and rode the 08 Vector LTX in Houghton in December at the Yamaha demo ride. The Vector engine is sneaky fast but doesn't have the arm-ripping pull like the 150 hp EFI engine in the Attak. However, the fuel mileage is much better on the Vector LTX. I only rode 20 miles and I didn't notice a big riding difference between the Attak and Vector LTX other than the engine.

the 08 vector has a lower CG than the Apex, in thoery it should corner better because the motor sits lower

Yes the 08 vector should be very much like the 06-08 Apex.
What you are noticing is moving the rider weight further forward to the center and some weight reduction.
I agree Delta 1 (RX1) and Delta II sleds feel quite a bit different.

OK here goes......... I own a 05 vector with 3,500 miles. My two riding buddies just bought 08 vectors.. Our first ride out I got to try both of them.. First thing I noticed was the difference in wind protection..The 08s are much colder.. I'm not really a fan of the taller seat or handle bars either... Aother thing I don't care for is the hood and panel arrangement. I mean gee wiz, On mine I just open the hood and there every thing is.. On the 08s you need to take half the machine apart... We didn't have any bumps that outing so I can't compare the ride.. All in all I'm happy with my antique. ;)! MM.

at the end of the season last year i did a few '08 demo rides and this is my thoughts on the sleds i rode:
Apex Rtx vs Vector:
Both had a nice ride and your seat position was quite comparable i thought. i could be wrong but i believe the vector had a slightly shorter riser than the apex. both rode well. basically in my opinion i think it would come down to the diff in hp and that drag racer torque of the apex and that more moderate torque of the vector. don't get me wrong the vector has plenty of get up and go but its still not a 150hp apex. So depending on your riding style, how much power you want and of course how much cash you want to spend... i leave it with you :-) Also as far as the old vectors go vs the new ones there is no comparison the new ones are 100% better i rode the old ones when they were 'new' and i personally felt they were under-powered. the new vectors have much more torque than the old ones.
I also rode the phaser Fx and the Nitro.
the phaser is a sweet sled for jumping stuff and playing in the back yard but i don't see it as an every day trail sled. also note it is quite tipsy but then again its designed to be light, small and nimble. if someone were thinking of a phaser i would go 1 step up and get the nitro. the nitro has sweet torque at almost any speed i had no problem lifting the skis but i didn't like the ride as well as i did on the vector and apex. it still felt a tad tippsy and the steering was a little heavy and it darted like a drunk driver who just left the bar at 2am. this may have been the snow conditions and or the ride setup but all the others i rode that day handled fine. so what was my choice? i spring ordered the Apex Rtx and i have to say its the best sled i have ever owned. its a bit pricey but if you want all that it has to offer its well worth it. (electric start, reverse, no oil, better fuel mileage over the 2 smokers, moderate bump ability, speed torque and madd power.) hey what do them other manufacturer's offer? yamaha may not offer pages and pages of silly lil cute add-ons and clothing but they sure give us 1 hell of a sled, when the other manufactures all seem to be more worried about how much their sled weighs as opposed to rider comfort and hmm durability? heh.

I hear what you are saying about the DBII Chassis. When you move the rider up and forward you get superior handling and for most people a more comfortable riding position, but you also sit up in the wind. You can stick a big stupid looking windshield in front of you or buy better clothing, that's your choices.

Oddly enough, I noticed much better wind protection on my wife's Phazer GT then on my RX1 with the Apex seat and a mid height wind screen. My Rx1 and the new 08 Vector seemed about the same.

its when it gets rough when you notice the huge difference between these sleds.. on the apex chassis, you are sitting on the pivot point.. where the Rx-1 chassis you are sitting directly above the suspension..

every chassis has its pros and cons.. but to me ride is #1
