I went to the Yamaha demo rides in Mancelona Michigan, hosted by T&R Yamaha of East Jordan. Many thanks to all involved.
This is a very nice sled! I really like the DBII riding position compared to my '06 Vector GT. The fuel injected motor is smooth and responsive. The monoshock valving is improved over my '06 and the handling seemed quite nimble on a twisty section of trail. I couldn't tell it had a longer track than mine. It seemed to do everything a trail machine should do extremely well.
The demo rides were done in groups and we stopped twice to switch sleds. I ended up riding two Nytro RTXs, both '09s judging by the colors. I was surprised their trail manners were not as good as the Vector. The steering was less precise and required more muscle, the ride seemed harsh, although these might be simple set up issues. Smooth starts were not easy as both would hiccup and lurch forward when taking off from a stop. I'd like to try one in a field of powder where they would probably be more in their element. I originally thought I might like a Nytro for my next machine, but most of our riding is on trails. I guess I'm just a Vector kind of guy.
Another thing that pleasantly surprised me was the fast pace of the ride. I had to really put the hammer down a few times to keep up. The leader of the ride was not afraid to let us put these machines through a good test.

That's awesome! I'd love to get my wife one of these new Vectors! They look like a superb trail machine! The Nytro is not for everyone but I personally love mine! Tons of fun to ride!!

I think my Dad's brother is going to trade his 2007 Vector GT in for one. He really wants the new FI motor.

After looking at Yamaha's website, one of the Nytros I rode might have been an RTX SE. It had the remote reservoir Fox Floats. The other was a "regular" RTX. It's possible these were set up for the younger roosters likely to take a demo ride on them. I wonder if the non-RTX Nytro would have a more forgiving ride for my old bones. Even though we normally put most of our miles on trails, I've spent a bit more time playing off trail near home this year, especially when we had a lot of powder earlier this winter. The Nytro just looks like it should be a lot of fun.

The FX Nytro or the XTX have a more forgiving shock package with the GYT-R's & I personally love the way it rides & handles. It is a crazy fun sled to ride & I can't get enough of it! No doubt about it though the Vector is a Cadillac on the trails! It's in its rightful domain there!

I am seriously torn between the new vector LTX GT and or the Apex version. I know if I get the vector I'm going to want more power sooner or later but does it handle that much better than the Apex LTX???? The weight difference doesn't seem like much but everyone is telling me how much better the vector handles compared to an Apex. I guess I should just ride both and decide from there...The nytro just seems too high for the type of riding I do and the sub frame downright scares me off of buying one..

I recently bought an 09 Vector LTX GT. Traded in an 06 Apex RTX. I would agree that the Vector feels much lighter than the Apex ever did on the trails, especially in the corners. Before the last ride I tightened the limiter strap by 1 set of holes and set the weight transfer 2 lines towards min transfer according to recommendations that I picked up off this site to flatten out the handling. The Vector now outhandles and outrides the old Apex 100%. It is amazing what a few adjustments made. At first I was skeptical moving backwards on HP but after that last ride I know I made the right choice. The Vector LTX GT is an absolute blast to ride and I havent missed the 30 HP yet. The stability and ride of the 136" track is amazing and I've never felt a downside to the longer track even on the tight woods trails. The fuel economy of the Vector is awesome as well. 174 miles on 9 gallons = 19.3 mpg on a tight engine and I wasn't just "touring". I'm happy.

P.S.: to those who are skeptical of the carbs on the Vector vs. the FI Apex, don't be too concerned. I was a little worried myself also. The Vector starts easily at full choke on the first cold start and never needs choke again the rest of the day even after sitting for 2 hrs. I haven't missed the EFI yet. Throttle response obviously isn't in the same league as the Apex but that's about it.

- 08' Nytro RTX 40th Anniversary - Stretched
I had a chance to ride one on Monday at a Demo ride in Brimley sponsored by Ray C's out of Lapeer. However, I never made it on the 2010 Vector. I rode a Nytro XTX, Nytro RTX, Apex, and Phazer RTX. I also thought the shock valving and the steering effort was much improved on the 09'Apex over my 07' RS. It was my first Demo ride and it was a blast. The ride was a full hour or so. I really liked the Nytro XTX. I will take riding postion and the ablity to stand over shaper handling on the Delta Box. I am also tired of my Mono bottoming out over big hits. G.B.
