rode 50 miles on the hill today. ride started out great to say the least, but ended short when the warmer than normal weather depleted nearly all of the snow...
unloaded at the Flat Rock around 11am (late start i know, we had a woman with us) 3 sleds, all YAMAHA (04 rx-1, 04 venom, 06 apex gt) and was surprised to see how many other riders were flying blue on the hill!
took off to the Montague Inn, and the riding was great to say the least! but of course, my RX-1 seemed to not want to run as good as i remember, but more on that later.
this was one of the only times that i have seen the trails that flat and fast as they were. had lunch at the Montague, which oddly enough, was not the greatest. usually we can count on them to serve a decent meal. but that is besides the point.
there was about 20-30 other sleds at that spot alone, with about 1/4 of the sleds we saw all day being new 2012 sleds! and i thought we were in a recession?!
from the Montague, we shot across the hill towards HighMarket. by this point, my sled must have run through its bad spot because it suddenly came to life and was pulling the skis the rest of the day..
by the time we got to "5 Corners" we noticed the snow was beginning to deplete. (it was 38degrees at this point around 1pm) by the time we got to the HighMarket, the farthest point of the ride, we were damn near out of snow and it was getting worse the farther from Flat Rock we got. there was only 8-10 sleds here, but about a dozen trailers in the parking lot. grabbed a road soda and back out we went.
arrived back at "5 Corners" and again, 10-20 sleds sitting there as well. stopped for a few minutes before deciding that the trails were beyond recovery, and headed back too the trailer. all of the trails from start to finish were average-great and were mostly flat, and extremely fast. by the time we got too the trailer around 4pm though, the warm weather had eaten a majority of the 1footplus that was there when we started.(40degrees now)
overall decent ride, minus the loss of snow by the end. saw around 100-150 sleds around the hill, and everyone else seemed to have the same idea we did... WHERE IS ALL THE SNOW?!

Thanx for the post I've been wondering if the hill was rideable. I did my first ride yesterday in Old Forge. About 50 miles, and the trails were great there also. I'm sure the warm weather today killed their snow too.

Thanks for the write up. Was contemplating trailering up on a buddy's trailer, but won't wast my time.

I went to the hill on Friday as well and clocked 100 miles.
By the end of the afternoon, around 3, it was getting pretty thin. Still had a blast for the first time ride on my Nytro!
I helped spread the Blue around too!

What is tug hill? Sorry I'm a midwesterner

Tug Hill is a large Plateau that covers a massive area over many many towns. this area is mostly farm land and seasonal roads. due to the high elevation of the plateau, it allows for one of the highest snowfall areas in New York State. average is around 300+ inches every winter. there is hundreds of miles of trails on this plateau alone, and it connects to nearly every other trail system in the state.

Tug Hill is a plateau at the east end of Lake Ontario that roughly runs from north of Syracuse to Watertown eastwards to the Adirondack mountains. Known for the "usually" large and persistent snowfall. There is very little in the way of large population or development and thus large amount of trails and seasonal roads.

From our ride on last Wednesday. Parked at the the old lady's house and did MRP to Inlet. @78 miles. We unloaded at 8am and were the only truck. When we got back to truck after lunch, there was 15 trucks there and the trail was getting beat up.
