Last weekend they had snowmobile demo rides at CruiseFest in Minocqua, WI.
I attended again this year and I rode an '06 Apex ER. I would have liked to try out a Nytro, but they were only allow 1 ride per day, so I figured Id go with an Apex.
I LOVED the Apex! It is the best snowmobile I have EVER ridden. I have never felt more in control and comfortable on any sled, PERIOD.
The Apex has a totally different feel from the RX-1. Where the RX almost felt out of control at times, the Apex never felt like that. We were riding on some pretty bumpy trails at speeds ranging from 50-80 mph and at no time did I feel uncomfortable, afraid or that I was pushing it beyond the sled's limits. I did have the sled lift the inside ski on me once or twice, but it was always very managable. Like I said, we were trail riding at 80 mph on twisty trails, so I was tossing the sled into the corners with a lot of aggression.
I had no problems with the heated grips not getting warm. After a 4 mile demo ride the handlebars were nice 'n toasty and the thumbwarmer got so hot that I had to turn it almost off. (I was wearing a pair of lightweight "sno-x" gloves, so if I didnt get cold with those gloves you arent going to have cold hands)
I could tell a big difference in the engine too. The Apex feels almost like a 2-stroke. It doesnt have the 4-stroke lag in terms of throttle response that the RX had. The Apex is also much quieter, it doesnt have the constant crotchrocket "waa-waa" that the RX had. That was something I didnt like about the RX-1, but Yamaha fixed that on the Apex. I also LOVED the EFI. It was so nice to just turn the key at put your helmet, goggles and gloves on while the sled warmed up and not have to worry about using the choke or having the sled stall on you. ;)!
All in all, the Apex is a REALLY nice sled. All you folks who were whining about your Apex, you need a :ORC . If you think your Apex is such a POS, you dont know how good you have it.

Great review. Forturnately, a couple of buddies just purchased GT's so this weekend should be fun. I look forward to riding the new apex.

BTW. We love our 4runner, it's truely an impressive machine.

80 MPH on bumpy twisty trails, plus first time test ride you are an example of what is wrong with our sport. Hope I never ride where you ride !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :ORC :o|

Sweet. I loved both the 4Runners I owned. On days when my F-150 decides it wants to be a POS and act up, I find myself wishing I still had either one of them.

Lighten up, Francis. I was just trying to keep up with the Yamaha rep who was leading the group.
Honestly, it felt like I was cruising along at a nice pace and then I looked down at the speedo and I was like :!: . Most of the time I trail ride at 30-50 mph.
What can I say: Im 25 years old, in shape and I can ride flat-out all day long and not get tired. (Im on of those guys with the MX helmet, tall handlebars and who rides standing up more often than not) I know the trails in the St Germain/Minocqua/Sayner/Eagle River area very well (Ive ridden them all my life) and I know the spots where you can open it up a little bit and I know the spots where you've gotta take it easy.

Ford F-150

I RESENT THAT YOU USE THE TERM FORD F-150 AND POS IN THE SAME SENTENCE. BETTER WATCH IT. LOTS OF FORD PEOPLE HERE.

LOL LOL LOL LOL

LOL...I just calls 'em like I sees 'em.
Dont get me wrong, I love the power and hauling capability of my Ford (not to mention the fact that women always compliment me on my truck) but in terms of dependability, its no Toyota.
Heres a pic from CruiserFest, BTW. They didnt have the Phazer there (it didnt come out untill 2 days later), so I didnt waste my time taking any more Yammie pics. I did get some pics of the '07 Polaris 600 HO IQ and of the new Polaris Outlaw ATV, but Im sure you guys could care less about that.

I don't have enough money to buy a Ford. 8)

fORD f-150

If you want to start a war then you just made a big mistake. I,ve had Ford F-150 since the 80's and have never had any major problems. I would bet a lot ofour faithful listeners could add to this.

You didn't miss anything by not riding the Nytro.
Thats kinda what I thought. I didnt want to pass up on the chance to ride an Apex and I figured that the Nytro was little more than a Vector with a taller seat and taller handlebars.

See.. somebody who rides like I do and has warm hands :)

octane,
Call Cory Davidson's team. He wasn't going nearly that fast arround banked corners at the Soo. You could be his relief rider.

97 F-150 Extended cab 4x4 here and the only time the rig has been wrenched on was for front brakes and removing the oil drain plug for oil changes ;)!
