2005 YAMAHA RS RAGE
Hi all! just joined and have some questions. I seem to join a forum for every machine I have. Find good info. So anyway, my father-in-law gave me his 2005 rs rage and it is stock 136 either 1.25 or 1.35 track. I really wanted to by a powder machine but with zero $$$ into this machine, is it worth putting some money into? Checked e-bay and saw 15 x 144 x 2" for $250 w/ free shipping. almost pulled the trigger immediately LOL. also would like to put some 8" powder skiis on it and loose the traction rod. I cannot find lots of info on this machine but think it is close to the vector. the rage has the 973cc genesis motor. Does anyone have some kinda feedback for me. do's or don'ts. I like to powder ride and don't care for the trails.

A set of apex mountain skis with all the mounting hardware would do the trick on the front. A set of rail extensions, longer tunnel extension and 8 tooth extroverts with the mentioned track would be a step in the right direction. I would also suggest a 2006-2010 apex seat mod with 4" of bar riser minimum for better transition from sitting to standing.

The mountain vector is what replaced the rage.

Btw welcome to the site!

for 0$ how can you go wrong! but just be aware this is more of a trail sled at heart. but you can still do alot to make it better

x2 on the apex mountain skis, correct me if im wrong but stock is 1.25" height, i dont know if it pertains to your model and year sled but if your thinking about studding the track you have to be careful what size your going with otherwise you can puncture the rads.

definitely look into whether or not the chaincase tensioner was replaced, replace your exhaust donut gaskets, read the top sticky'd posts in this RS General Talk forum everything is there.

check/change all the fluids, grease everything up, ask more questions!

i think j1635 means cam chain tensioner on the engine.

Thanks for the info so far. I plan on upgrading the skiis and maybe better shocks. have to check the tunnel clearance, want to go two inch track - (no studs). machine come with a two inch powermadd riser on it but about to purchase a pivot riser which will be another inch and a half plus the vertical rise instead of rearward. I'm interested in this apex seat mod? gotta check that out. supposed to snow tomorrow.

I could just make this simple and painless, the 2015 SRViper m-tx 162 has caught my eye! Even the new phaser is reasonable. afraid im not gonna be happy until I get that mountain machine.

So if some one could jump in here, Im thinking if I stretch from 136 to 144, why not just go 151 or am I getting crazy now? gonna put 8tooth wall drivers in the front for clearance. My dealer sais two inch will fit but I need more room to spin the snow out or it will clog. Is this true?

Your dealer is correct, dropping back a tooth will help you out up front, You will probabally have to take the protecters off the front heat exchanger for the 2'" track. I had to take mine off my Nytro to go to the 1.75" track. And make sure what the pitch your track is before you buy new drivers. The paddle tracks are usually 3" instead of 2.52" that the current 136" track is.

I converted my 2008 Vector to a 151" Team Fast air skid 4 yrs ago. However, I still have a 1.25" lug track with 2.52 pitch. Like Agman said, double check the track pitch when you purchase.

Buy a good Tunnel extension! There are some vendors on this site that can hook you up.

If you're wanting a 4" riser seat, I have a custom one in the shop that I'll make you one heck of a deal on! It still looks almost new! I can send pictures, etc if interested?

Thanks Northernsledder but I don't like high seats. I mostly powder ride and standing the whole time. Have to be able to throw my feet over the seat!

So the RS Rage Mountain build is on ! ;)! Ordered me up a 151 x 2" camoplast challenger track, 8 tooth extroverts, and a rail extension:bling I will try to document the build for everyone to see. will take a week for everything to get here and get some pics up. :letsnow: My dealer said the Yamaha replacement ski bottoms are $104.95 ea for 8" powder skis'. May be next on my list.

Posted this in the wrong thread so I want to update this one to document my build. Sent a E-mail out to Muffin Works for a rail extension! Looks like these are the Beee's Kneee's  Don't mind spending the extra money for a solid Hyfax all the way back and a 6 Deg. pitch-up in the back for turning and backing up! These guys seem to know what they wanted when they built them. The extensions are built to order and not mass produced so may take a couple days for them to build. looking forward to seeing the mail man everyday. got lots of stuff ordered and will keep everyone up to date as parts come in.

Sooo I spent too much time in the garage last night, I mean this morning LOL. Waiting for parts to come in and needed to get some things prepped. First thing was I hated the clear windshield. 029.JPG 036.JPG Good ole Krylon five coats. Every time I get stuck, the darn bumper is at my toes if you grab it and the snow flap is not jammed against the bumper. Want a longer and taller bumper so I played around with some conduit . Not sure If I like it. Maybe someone can jump in and give me some ideas.031.JPG 033.JPG 034.JPG 038.JPG 045 (2).JPG Received a couple parts I ordered today. Found a cheap handlebar bag on e-bay for $20. Think it will be handy! Also received my rail extension from Muffin Works. These look to be bulletproof. Have a couple questions if anyone has installed them. Suppose I mount them up first then install my slides. Looks like its gonna be hard to slide them on. 046 (2).JPG 046.JPG 047.JPG So enough for today, I have to research removing the front shaft and get my track off so my exoverts can be pressed on. My track is coming Monday.
