I noticed that I might have an exhaust leak, it seems to be coming from under the heat shield somewhere in the engine compartment or in the tunnel up front. You can hear it when when the sled is idling. If you lift the hood you can smell a gas smell that was not there before. Also when I start from a stop sign or something you get a whiff of gas.
Has anyone had an exhaust leak or gasket go bad on a RS yet? I have close to 6000 miles on it.
Could it be a clamp of some type on the exhaust that has come loose?.
Any input would be appreciated.
thanks

I have a rx. I just finished replacing my exhaust doughnuts. They were all shot.Same exact symptoms you described.I have just over 5000 miles on mine.
RS should be the same ,remove seat, tank, heat shield on top of header pipe, clamps that hold exhaust together(5mm allen) then remove four bolts that hold muffler in place(under another shield) then remove two allen bolts in top of tunnel that are under rubber covers(5mm allen also).Complete exhaust will now slide back some and you can get whats left of the doughnuts out.
When putting new doughnuts in you must pry short accordion looking exhaust headers foreward a little to get doughnuts in place or you could get a new exhaust gasket that goes on head and remove each flex pipe section individully and replace doughnuts that way.Doughnuts are a little over 10.00 each, any qestions PM me.Heres a picture of old doughnuts.

My far right cylinder started leaking at 9,950 miles. The sound of the motor which was not normal was the clue.
Replaced all three exhaust seals as well as the single pipe connecting seal underneath in the tunnel.
According to my dealer these seals are not covered under YES.
They are a wear/gasket item.
Currently have 10,486 miles on my 05 RS Venture.

Steve 05 Rx1 and Hondo,
Thanks for the information, I thought it was my imagination at first. Great pictures and instructions on how to fix.
Boy, Hondo you put some serious miles on, you must live in real snow country.

Hondo, Maine is a nice State.
Forgot to ask this the first time, will I hurt the engine if I ride the sled a couple of hundred more miles with this condition before I fix it?

I rode it for a couple of hundred miles and the sound progressively got a little worse.
You hear it more when the engine is cold. As engine heat builds the exhaust gasket starts to seal better.
There is a metal shield cover over the exhaust pipes. Upon repair we found the shield was sooted over the leaking cylinder.
In my opinion, I wouldn't run too long without repair. Could be more expensive should something else become damaged.
I look at it as proper maintenance.

Good advice, is the heat shield in the tunnel or in front of the gas tank in the chassis?

The shield covers the engine exhaust mainfold, and I guess would include the front part of the fuel tank. No shield in the tunnel.
