Hi All,
I keep seeing mentions of jackshafts bending or breaking on several posts.
Is this something I need to worry about as I have the first Venture my dealer assembled.
Is this another part replaced by Yamaha?
If not what is the cost for a stronger one?
Will mine break while I am in the middle of nowhere?

Please help to calm my shattered nerves. ;)!

This problem only affect a batch of sleds , not all. Your dealer should be able to tell you ,with your serial number, if your sled have a bad jackshaft
If it is the case, they will replace it on warranty ;)! .

I had the badluck to have mine break last season (yes, in the middle of nowhere :o| ) and Yamaha was back-order for weeks on these. My dealer take care of me and installed me a modified RX1 jackshaft and get me back on the trail in only few days LaLaLa . A great thank to my dealer on this one

And as a recall, just in case your on the list (which does not seems to be the case since you had no notification), pay yourself a new bering if you have 2 or 3 thousand miles. It is not included in the swap of the shaft and they put back the old one. It takes quite an amount of work to get at it.

Could you please clear something up for me. "IF" you have a bad shaft yammie will contact the owner??????? I plan on stopping at the dealer soon and see if mine is on a recall  list. MM.

I don't think they notify you just call and ask . They never called me I took mine in to get the clutch rattle fixed and the service manager checked my serial # and said that I had three recalls and that he would do them all .

only certain serial numbers are covered,i changed one yesterday at the dealer i work at,the kit includes all new seals, snap rings, shaft and o-rings but doesnt includes new bearings or lock collar or lock nut, good idea to change the bearing on clutch side while they have it apart so you know it will be good for another season or 2

Talked with my dealer yesterday. They siad the issue was on a service bulletin. Yamaha would only send out letters on recalls. This is an issue they would look at when you bring the sled in for service. :rocks:

Talked to my dealer today on an unrelated topic, he said Yamaha sent him a shaft and he wanted to know when I could bring in my sled.

We just got another foot of snow last night, our total to 6' now and they want the sled. Better than breaking in the middle of know where I guess.

Anybody know what the VIN range is for the '05 Venture? I'm brining in the Wife's Venture next week for the CDI box and clutch fix and want to make sure her sled is not in the VIN range for sleds that need the jackshaft replaced.

The last 6 numbers on serial # for recall are 000818-005747.Got those from dealer for RS Venture. Just got igniter box and clutch done, now back to dealer for shaft.I'm happy that Yamaha is taking care of these issues though. Now about that damn track noise(i've seen a post about an A/C silent track fixing that but they don't make a 144 in. one!)

Tabor Rider 973........Thanks. My wife's sled is number 000681 so it looks like I'm safe. The CDI box and clutch fix are both no charge - correct? The sled is out of Yamaha's one year warrantee.

Mine is 002800 so it looks like I fall in the catagory.
Just called the dealer after your very helpful post Tabor.
They are running my numbers as of this writing.
Thanks all.
