I'm looking at the possibility of studding the Camoplast Ripsaw track on my RS Venture GT (and therefore also installing the tunnel protectors). One concern I have is that a lot of RS Venture owners were having problems with idler wheel life, particularly pre-'07 owners. So far, my sled seems to be okay in this regard, but I have concern that there may be a relationship between stud installation and premature idler wheel failure.

In your opinion, is there a basis for this concern?

Actually I think it was mostly 05 that there was a big problem with premature idler wear, I thought I read somewhere in here Yamaha had a big batch of faulty wheels, since then it has been fixed..I don't think you will have a problem with studding your sled..My idles are holding up well so far........

The Suburban of Snowmobiles - I like that.

Anyway I was talking to a buddy today who has an 08 RS Venture TF. He has 250 km on it and during the first ride a rear idler wheel came off and was lost forever. During the second ride the sled started overheating while idling in -12 to -15 degree weather. And when he got home and took a good long look at the sled he noticed several bolts that had come out of the skid. I think I would be kind of ticked at whoever PDIed that sled. They told him that the overheating was a common problem at his ealer and advised him to never idle the sled or to install some sort of extra cooling capability - comments please.

1. A new engine runs hotter because of increased friction between parts that have not broken in yet.

2. Some members of this site have complained that their sleds were delivered with 100% antifreeze/0% water in the cooling system, which offers less efficient cooling properties than the proper mix.

3. While I have never overheated my sled, I ride in relatively warm weather and often in low speed/high engine effort conditions, and as a precaution, have purchased the factory accessory rear heat exchanger.

4. If I was your friend, I would double check the oil level, as engine oil draws heat away from the engine.

wheel/studs

Last winter the dealer replaced 2 idler there were the front ones I got my track studded this winter and had to replace the second set of idlers on the skid So I guess it does not matter studed or not

There are people who have studded and had no problems and people who have not studded and had problems, there is nothing definitive. If you have a YES warranty, once you stud, you'll loose your your coverage on any of the wheels in the suspension. Just keep an eye on the idlers once you do it.

Vector GT with 2200 miles and studded. I went though 4 rear 130mm inside wheels. The rubber was all gone down to the plastic, then some. All other wheels not running over the studs are fine. $50 a pop. I would not stud where there are wheels again.

i have had a couple of friends have overheating problems because the dealer put in straight antifreeze with no water mix in it. it was not mix out of a 50 gallon drum in the shop so you may want to measure the antifreeze for water.
