What's the best way to break-in my new Rtx. Picked it up a couple of weeks ago! First time i ever bought a new sled in May but it was a good deal! I'm on my 19th coat of wax...counting the days for my first ride!

Welcome to the site and congratulations on your new sled. :-o

Regarding the break-in procedure, this is always a hot topic as we approach the next season and members want to break-in their new sleds. Below are some links to past threads on this topic. Personally, I have had the best results by following what Yamaha recommends on my last 3 four stroke sleds.

realalistically it doesnt make any difference how you break it in... Jut make sure and change the oil and filter after the first 500 miles..

Do not follow the Yamaha manual. Basically go the Mototune route. Drive it like you stole it but no long wide open runs. Lots of 5-10 second WO runs.

Follow Motoman's procedure it works just like he states. You won't burn the rings you will seat them properly. I have personally used this procedure on at least 15 engines with no problems. I have not heard of anyone who had a problem what so ever with his method. If his procedure didn't work someone who had a problem with using his method would be here writing about it!!!!! ;)!

I don't know the best method to use, but I'm wondering how many of you guys have ran a sled 6000-10000 miles after your recommended break-in procedure? It seems most sell their sled with only 1000-4000 miles on it...hardly long enough to notice any possible problems...

Ride it like your going to ride it including WOT. I did not burn my rings with both rx-1's and do not use oil in either and that is 100% synthetic oil also.

i broke my 03 rx-1 in by the book(the owners manual)put over 10,000 miles on it and it still ran great and used no more oil than when it had 2000 miles on it.
