RTX Overheating, Anyone else

Cadman-

If you don't have a cheap checker, go spend a couple bucks at the autoparts and get one.

Since they are not all setup equally...different makes and models read differently.

All you do is pour a cup of anti freeze in a jar, and add one cup of wanter. That gets you a 50/50 mix which should be all you need save for those guys in the artic. Once you do that, measure it again with your specific density tester, and see what it reads.

Then duplicate the reading on the sled once the mix is correctly made. Make sure you run the engine for awhile to get the water/anti freeze mixed up good. Keep testing til it gets to 50/50 but no more than 60/40.

Never use tap water. Get some distilled water to mix with. Some antifreezes don't like the minerals in the water and will congeil.

Don't have a clue about the tors. Leave that for somebody else.

I run my cooling system set at-10 never had a problem . Doesnt get solid til -67 that we will never see in Wis. Min. Makes motor run like it has ten HP more.

The best coolant is water... Antifreez is for just that.. keeping the coolant from freezing and water pump lubricaton....

Your engine is more likely to over heat when it is 100% antifreeze and no water...

Overheating

Hey guys out there. I added water wetter like was reccommended on this forum. I thought I did it right by just adding it to the resevoir cold. Now I believe from owning this machine the past year that I have air in the coolant line. Is there an easier way to burp the lines without taking the bleed bolt off the back. I had the luggage rack added from the dealer and you have to take it off first and it's -40 outside. Any help would be appreciated.

Jack up the front of the sled and burb it that way. I just did this last night to my Attak (Use a floor jack). I idled the engine until the coolant started to rise in the bottle, shut off the engine and rocked the sled back and forth and out came the bubbles and the coolant level dropped. I would then start it up again and run it until the coolant rose up again, shut it off and rocked. I did this about 4 times until no more bubbles appeared ;)!

Flushed mine and used ENGINE ICE coolant instead of antifreeze. (Supposed to be better but expensive). There is a bleeder screw on the back crossover pipe under the snowflap. Just remove the plastic cover and you will see it. Start the engine and check the exchangers for heat as it starts to warm up. If anything stays cold then you must have air in it.

My dealer also confirmed what smokeless1 says: The sleds come from Yamaha full of coolant, it's not straight AF but is the ratio recommendd in the owner's manual.

Can someone explain why some sleds are overheating and other are not. I been on trails, roads, snow, no snow, low speed, Hi speed, mild, very very cold --- all this for over 1800 miles and the high temp. never when on.

And for the first time last week end I did notice my boots (right) getting warm, the fan rad was on. That was after running 20 miles at 30 mph on a icing road with no snow, I was the end patrol, while my friend was towing one of the other brad new Rev H.O. 800 with a blow engine. Once arrived, I check the fan and it was off. More and more people are complaning about overheating, I must be doing something right but can' t tell you what. By the way, my 04 warrior last year was overheating pretty bad, it is one of the reason have switch to the 06 model.
