:yam: Just purchased this RX-1 300 miles from a guy on ebay It was stored in his barn no maintenance done when I lifted the hood It smelled like mouse sh-- . It had mouse sh-- everywhere even a nest in the air cleaner. I cleaned it up replaced the fuel and It runs spits and sputters at low RPM and will not Idel for more than 20 seconds. Love Yamaha and the sled what should I start with. Sounds like fuel problem. Help

bad idle

I actually just had to take my rx1 in because it became very hard to start and wouldn't stay running after I started it all of the time. They told me it just needed the idle turned up and that this was somewhat common. This didn't happen until after I had 600 miles on it. And also follow what was recommended above. It always amazes me how someone will pay so much cash for a sled and not maintain the thing. Good luck.
;)!

Check the TORS..might be some pieces of mouse nest holding the throttle open enough to activate the throttle override. If not I'd remove the carbs and float bowls....give them a thorough cleaning and make sure the pilot jets aren't plugged. Check that the pilot screws are al at the same setting while you have the carbs off...stock is 2 turns out...adjustable depending upon elevation. Always use fresh gas. Mice love wire insulation so maybe inspect the under hood wiring while your looking.

I have a service manual on order, what about the TORS.. How and where; I have changed the plugs ran much better after that wouldent go over 20 mph prior. Can't believe this guy treated it like that still blows my mind. I plan on going through the carbs tonight Thanks for the imput.
