Rumours on 2012 Nytros

I would bet Chris Reid from Sled Talk and Yamaha Canada would disagree with you on a potential factory turbo option in the near future.

They are watching what MCX and PUSH turbo are doing. Right now they are not necessarily endorsing them, but Chris states, "From what I have seen and heard the PUSH turbo is a reliable, easily installed system that meets Yamaha quality standards and you can bet we will be watching this new introduction very closely."

The other manufacturers have done it from the factory. Third party manufacturers are putting them out with more and more reliability. Heck, if Ford can put an Ecoboost Twin Turbo V6 in the new 2011 F150, then we ought to be able to order that Turbo Phazer with 150hp under the hood!

We will see.

Be Safe Everyone! Snow is a coming to MN as we speak!!

Rumor has it the 2012's will cost about 20% more than the 2011's. By 2015 Yamaha will be offering special 180 month financing deals. LOL

30 yr mortgages...

seriously though..doubt the factory turbo... they are so conservative its sickening..

the parts dept turbo helps them on many levels and is more profitable than another sled sale in itself I bet..not to mention the guys who wont follow directions and need parts from KABOOM'n their motor...

I would have to agree that Yami is very conservative, but they have to compete. The 800 Etec is looking to be around 165hp possibly more... they can't ignore that. Since they insist on staying with 4-strokes, they'll have to come up with something. Turbocharging, when done conservatively, is really the only way to get it done as far as I can tell. I would love to walk in and be able to buy a 180hp Nytro for 12K.

wouldnt it just blow everybodies mind if they came up with their own direct injection 2 stroke...kinda like doo coming late to the 4 stroke game with the 1200..say a etec competitior with yam durability...Id be all over that..

Isn't the E Tec 163 point something for sure, multiple dynos? That would put the new apex right on par with a powerband that makes the etec look like a chainsaw? Seems like if Yamaha really wanted to they could make a non turbo motor that runs right with an E tec that goes into the nytro...

I remember a few years ago, just before the RX1 came out, one of the mags thought a 900cc HPDI ( high pressure direct injection ) motor might come out. I think that system came from there outboard motors at the time..not sure but it comes to mind...something like that in a stronger Nytro chassis would be coo!

Also, the E tec almost seems like a step back for all the two stroke guys that have said

they like the sound of two strokes- the e tec makes no noise

two stroke motors are simple- i am not an expert but that engine does not seem simple

and as far as mods go, if you were bill gates you might be able to mod one of those things haha

I am not saying that the E tec is not an awesome sled, but it took just as much technology and complication to produce a two stroke that competes in fuel economy and emissions areas. JMO

exactly! we all know yamaha is the sleeping giant...

they have the ability to really make a wave...the thought of that motor in a lightweight frame is a winnner!

Why not direct injection 4 stroke? Lets you run higher compression ratio which makes more hp and tq.... I wonder how much can be made making the drive line more efficient, aka clutches, removing the jackshaft like cat. etc.

the diamond drive? :exc: thats no goal...thing is a pos... but the DI fourstroke sounds nice ;)!

SJ, I actually like my 06 F7 with the DD....while alot of guys said they were slower tan chainers, I found them to be a tad faster...mine ran 114 all day and it was stock, my buddies pulled 118 stock....they were just costly to do gearing changes and had to be maintained every season...never had any issues.

to each his own..I know some racers and the first thing they do is remove it and install a STM gearbox...I know others whos unit puked... but once you got the pressurization figured out and the sled dialed in for a trail sled I suppose it was okay...but like you said...costly to change ratio's at the least..

my bet is out of a hundred DD's to chainers....all tuned...the chainers were faster...

when it comes to machines...maybe you just get the good ones lol
