i bought a 03 rx-1 mnt a few weeks ago..and some of my friends who ride and even a few from this forum have said the mountain isn't a great sled for trail riding in vermont. is there anyone out there who has a mountain and has ridden or does ride out there to give me a better opinion? i would hate to think i have to start considering selling it for the shorter version , since i have been looking forward to the season since i purchased it. can anyone help me?

Not a big problem
Hey Man,
Don’t think it's too much of a problem...I'm a flatlander from Ontario and I don't have too many problems with riding trails. I would have to say though, you may want to jump in the snow once and a while to lubricate the track and throw snow on your running boards (heat exchangers). The machine is made for deep snow! I just purchased my RX-1 M last Feb and I found that out pretty quick. If your're going to ride just trails, you may want to buy something more suited for the trails:ORC

Me too, bought RXM for prairies (not much snow either) but for the odd trip out to BC. Just have to make sure to stay in snow when snow available, never had any problems with track damage or excess hyfax wear. Very happy with it.

I just got my 04 Mtn last spring and loved every minute of it. I rode the trails, broke trail, hammered through slush, didn't matter. If you are running a 2" paddle track, then you just have to use your head a little bit by driving on the side of the trail once in a while to lube the sliders. When you go off trail, then show your short track buddies who's boss.
Put it this way, a lot more heads will turn when they see your Mtn sled compared to the short tracks that you see every day. I don't think you have any reason to reconsider.

Just make sure to run ice scratchers , that way you don't have to worry about running of the trail to cool sliders as well as finding the big rock . I don't think Im the only one that has found a rock while trying to keep the sliders cooled.

Steel springs that mount on the rails(Holz racing products) or on the skis Hartman INC . You can have them in the snow and they scratch the Ice and snow and spray it up in the track and heat-exchangers for cooling.

Re: ice what?
Rode with Kmer, who rides a mountain sled on the flatlands in Ontario and Manitoba. I followed him for two days and I observed first hand that he had no problems riding that sled on the trails, including the twisty parts. Heck, we all had a hard time keeping up with him.
