We did some work on my brother in laws sled this fall. He has an 04 Warrior with a .010 head gasket, Apex cams, ported head, k&n's with the airbox horns, gutted exhaust, cr10, timing advanced 3 degrees. My question is what rpm do you guys think it will make power at? What is it that makes the Apex make power at higher r's? The ECU? I know that a dyno is the answer but he may not want to spend the money.

Its mainly the cams. You change the cams, you change the power curve. However, you've also changed the timing, so all bets are off. It is, however, a 4-stroke, so the powerband is nice and wide. I say aim for 10600.

With a stock or gutted exhaust yopu want to be around 10500. With an aftermarket exhaust like excell or hauck you want to be around 10700-10800. Also with that setup your stock exhaust will make more power than with it gutted.

Not quite. Stock RX power is at 10300.

Your right but his sled is far from stock, however the exhaust is stock/gutted. I was speaking specifically for his setup, not a stock sled with a gutted exhaust.

I think we will clutch it 10,500 - 10,900 with 3-4 set ups and see where it runs. There is a local guy with a dyno that will do 3 runs for $150. Maybe we will do that. I would also assume that a modded exhaust would help on this sled. With the intake and the motor modified to flow a lot more air, the exhaust is the next big restriction.

With that setup the hauck exhaust makes the most power and the excell is not far behind. For some reason a gutted exhaust dyno'd considerably lower than the stock exhaust. The big restriction in the exhaust is the flexible pipes that bolt onto the head.

What are the specifics of the sled that was dynoed before and after the mod exhaust and how was the exhaust changed. We also did clean up the weld where the flange is welded to the flex pipe. That is the most restrictive part of the little head pipes.
