For those of you that did our own exhaust mod, (cut and removed pipes on factory muffler) are you happey with the sound. Also one guy reported he lost 10 mph on top end. Any body else have proof of performance gains of losses after the mod?

Thanks Bruce

not sure, never noticed aany loss, but sounds way better then the aftermarket.dont cut it all out just take out the one crossover in thre muffler

how much louder is it? like way louder or way way way louder :drink:

how hard of a job is it??

mine is louder then stock but not nearly as loud as the bender exhaust.mine sounds like a loudere version of stock. the bender sounds like a chevette without a muffler, imho

Did you take any pics. From what i remember seeing on this site there looked like 3 or 4 tubes in the middle and they cut them all out?
Thanks Bruce

gut it all, sounds like a well piped r1. didnt get a ticket in michigan for noise. ;)!

i bought mine with it done so i dont know, all i know its not as loud as some i heard. but everyone says it sounds awesome. :-o

Hum... Im still debating, I don't want to loose even 1/8hp by doing anything to the sled. I know these machines are built to run with the exhaust thats on them and aftermarket companies have the capability to research and dyno different setups to make hp but yamaha paid some engineer millions to design this system to run good with the motor and still be quiet. If I could make it a little louder and sound good and still keep my hp where it is or gain Id do it but Im no engineer so I dont dare mess with anything for fear of loosing power...

Exhaust

I am with you. Need more info.
I have always put my money into hp before sound or looks. Would hate to loose any power.
Bruce

all i can tell you is when my exhaust broke at the x crossover it was instantly much quicker than the other 2 2003 rx-1's and the 2005 rx-1 i ride with.but silly loud.

I just installed an excell x1 system on my 04. It sounds awesome! It looks good also, I painted the raised letters silver. Everything fit great. thanks to Aron at excell motorsports.Sorry I don`t know how to add pictures.
