Don't know if it common but noticed my sled get ice build up in the tunnle and somtimes it falls off and gets eaten by the track some are bigg enough it slows me down...
I thought my rx1 was bad for ice build up but my buddy's nytro is NUTS. I love the look and drive of the nytro but if all nytros have the same ice build up as his, I don't think i would buy one.
I have the rear upper opening blocked off. It cut down on ice big time. However, I have a custom exhaust that breathes a ton on top so heat isn't an issue at all for me. The only ice I really get now is on top of the tunnel extension.
Not sure how much of this would transfer to a shorty as you would have so much more heat entrapment with the seat and upper exhaust covers.
If I ride on-trail I have basically zero build up. Deep snow I get some.
I always carry a small plastic hammer usually called a dead hit hammer. I knock the ice out every morning before I ride and even on the trail if one stops long enough for it to freeze. Never had chunks of ice large enough to stop me go through the track after that.
